Can CBD Cream Have Any Side Effects

CBD cream can come in handy for pain relief, even those related to chronic conditions such as arthritis. However, it may present some side effects, such as irritation and slowing down the healing process if used on open wounds and sores.

CBD was being backlashed because it is derived from the cannabis plant. CBD is now getting praised and gaining popularity after it was recently legalized. CBD is thought to have health and wellness benefits that apply in a variety of areas. It is no wonder many industries are including this herb as an ingredient in their products. Skincare industries are also majoring in CBD, and it is no surprise to find products such as creams containing CBD. However, some are still cautious about using CBD cream's safety and possible side effects.

    What is CBD Cream?

If you are looking for a way to benefit from CBD, you are most likely to stumble on a variety of products and a ton of products from different brands. The legalization of hemp-derived CBD products came with many perks, as you can now benefit from the health and wellness benefits of using CBD products such as CBD cream. This cream is formulated with CBD to offer all the therapeutic effects that come with CBD. Depending on the CBD extract used, CBD may or may not contain THC. CBD cream also contains other therapeutic herbs, such as lemongrass essential oils. CBD creams are part of the CBD topicals that are gaining popularity as pain relievers for muscles, joints, and other ailments.

    CBD Cream and Pain Relief

The application of topicals on the skin benefits not only the surface of the skin but also the tissues below it. The human body comprises the endocannabinoid system (ECS). According to Abdel-Magid (2021), the ECS is a cell signaling system that regulates mood, appetite, pain, and other bodily functions. The endocannabinoid system comprises endocannabinoids which are naturally produced cannabinoids. It also comprises cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2, which run throughout the body and help several systems and organs maintain homeostasis. Pain regulation is one of the many functions of the cannabinoid receptors (specifically CB1) influence. When the skin absorbs CBD cream, the cannabinoids from the extract mimic those produced by the body and help relieve pain. CBD may also activate the ECS by binding to the cell receptors in the muscle tissues and nerves to deal with chronic pain and inflammation. Baswan et al. (2020) noted that CBD interacts with the cannabinoid receptors and enzymatic factors in the skin that regulate inflammation and pain.

    How To Use CBD Cream

Using topicals and, in this case, CBD cream is easy. Using CBD cream involves topical application on and around a specific area where one feels the pain to benefit from the pain-relieving properties of CBD. CBD cream should not be applied to broken skin like other creams and lotions. CBD cream application is similar to that of applying moisturizing cream. Even so, dosage with CBD cream is not as easy. However, it is important to determine how many grams of CBD are in the topical to understand whether there is enough CBD to deal with the patient's pain. The higher the concentration of CBD, the higher the efficacy of the CBD cream. With CBD, consider starting with lower potency and dosage and gradually increasing to achieve the desired effects.

    Benefits of CBD Cream

    Reduces Acne

Production of excess oils by the body may lead to clogging of the pores, bringing about acne breakout. The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD also have a role to play in dealing with acne and other skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema.

    Reduces Arthritis Pain

Arthritic patients can also benefit from using CBD cream due to the analgesic properties of CBD that help relieve pain. The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD also come in handy in dealing with inflammation and relieving muscle and joint pain.

    Peripheral Neuropathy

Simsek & Demir (2021) noted that peripheral neuropathy is nerve damage that induces weakness, numbness, and pain in the hands and feet. CBD cream has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties that can deal with nerve and muscle pain and offer relief.

    Jaw Pain

people experiencing the temporomandibular disorder, which induces muscle and joint pain in the jaw, can also benefit from using CBD cream to relieve pain.

    Side Effects of CBD Cream

There are numerous ways of taking CBD. CBD creams and other topicals are only meant to be applied on the skin and not ingested. They can come in handy for those with dry and irritated skin but it is important to wait for open wounds or sores to heal before applying CBD to the skin. CBD cream should not be used on broken skin as it may cause irritation and even slow the body's natural healing process. Evans (2020) stated that other common side effects of CBD use as reported by users include digestive discomfort, drowsiness, and changes in appetite and weight. These side effects fade off with time. Most side effects of CBD come with ingesting CBD and not topical use.

    Conclusion

CBD cream is formulated with CBD to provide all of the therapeutic benefits associated with CBD. They come in handy in dealing with several conditions, including acne, arthritis, peripheral neuropathy, and jaw pain. However, the side effects of using the cream are mostly skin irritation. Avoid using CBD cream on broken skin; if you have open wounds or sores, it is advisable to wait until they heal before using CBD cream, as it can slow down the healing process. Even though CBD has little research backing it up, it has proven to work fine in numerous areas, including pain relief. Therefore, get yourself high-quality CBD cream from reputable brands.
