Face scrubs are commonly used to exfoliate the skin; exfoliation removes dirt and dead skin cells, allowing cell turnover and other vital metabolic processes. This article highlights some of the ingredients used in a face scrub and their benefits.
The natural elimination of dead skin cells (exfoliation) does not remove all dead cells from the skin. Hence, it is necessary to reinforce the skin through other processes. Exfoliation can be physical or chemical. Chemical exfoliation utilizes beta hydroxyl acids to dissolve the dead skin cells. Mechanical exfoliation uses physical face scrubs. Since the legalization of CBD, many skin care products have been infused with cannabinoids. Therefore users can enjoy the health benefits of its ingredients for multiple diseases. This article highlights ingredients used in CBD face scrubs.
Cannabidiol CBD is an active compound extracted from hemp or cannabis plant. CBD is associated with many health benefits. CBD is isolated from THC through industrial processes. The absence of THC makes the product safe and non-psychoactive. According to Watt & Karl (2017), THC has a psychoactive property that makes its users feel “high .”Therefore, while THC and CBD are extracted from the same plant, they have different effects. Pure CBD is sold in the form of vaporized liquids or capsules; however, in the market, it is infused in skincare products, drinks, and food.
CBD face scrub is not different from regular exfoliants; they serve similar purposes, like the removal of accumulated dirt and dead cells from the skin. The difference between the CBD faces scrub and regular scrubs is that the former is infused with cannabidiol, cannabis derivative. When mixed with other products, CBD supplements them for better skin treatment outcomes. A CBD face scrubs can work with honey face scrubs, coffee face scrubs, or herbal scrubs. For instance, When you use a honey face scrub with CBD, your skin benefits from honey and CBD. For example, while the honey smoothens the skin, CBD provides anti-inflammatory, pain relieving, or antifungal effects without undermining the action of honey on the skin.
The skin interacts with the external and internal environment, which might damage the skin. Internally, the skin produces a natural oil called sebum. While sebum prevents the skin from drying, excessive sebum production clogs the pores leading to increased breakouts. Exfoliating the skin removes the clogging, making the skin accessible to beneficial ingredients from skin care products. Further, the removal of clogs makes the skin appear refreshed and youthful.
Face scrubbing removes dirt and oils, allowing cell turnover, and revealing new healthy and bright skin. Gently exfoliation results in smooth and glowing skin. According to Yunus (2015), CBD can detoxify the skin and enable other face scrubs to act effectively on the skin.
The dead skin cells barricade the skin from interacting with moisturizers. According to Stella et al.( 2019), CBD can hydrate the skin. Therefore, while exfoliating the skin, the cannabinoid keeps it hydrated. Hence, removing dirt and dead cells covering the skin should be prioritized for a skin product to provide good results.
Exfoliating removes dead cells, allowing the skin to regenerate new cells. It also nourishes existing cells. The removal of dead cells removes spots and scars, which are mainly dead cells. Consequently, it smoothens the skin's texture and makes it uniform.
The skin can be loose due to aging; exfoliating the skin with a gentle massage makes the skin firm. Puffiness, the appearance of fluids underneath the skin, can be removed by face scrub and massage. This leaves skin looking firm and healthy.
Naturally, the skin regenerates every 25 to 30 days. However, as you age, this process slows down. Face scrubbing rejuvenates the skin less wrinkled. According to Wang et al. (2022), CBD has an antiaging property that reduces wrinkling and fine lines associated with aging.
The skin differs from person to person; some types are dry, oily, sensitive, or normal. The variations in skin type correspond to a variation in the effect of CBD skin care products. Therefore, when purchasing skin care products, it is essential to consider your skin type.
Skin products with salicylic acid work best for oily skin because of their ability to fight acne; the acid prevents the clogging of pores associated with oily skin.
Face scrubs with methyl lactate and cucumber extracts are more useful for normal skin. Additionally, users with normal skin can energize with vitamin B3.
If your skin is dry, you can reduce the frequency of exfoliations to once a week. Ideally, frequent face scrubbing makes the dryness more severe. Immediately after exfoliation, use enough moisturizer to keep the skin hydrated.
The most common treatment for sensitive skin is the Willow bark extract. This skincare product has antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties, suppressing irritation caused by fungi and inflammation.
Over-exfoliation can damage the skin; therefore, it is advisable to use face scrubs at least once or twice a week. Men or women can do exfoliating to remove dead skin, which makes the skin glow and look healthy. In contrast, face scrubbing can be done daily; face scrub creams are soft and gentle. Notably, there is a difference between body scrubs and face scrubs; therefore, avoid body scrubs on the face to prevent damaging the delicate and sensitive skin parts.
