CBD is a new product on the market. Most information about it is handled carefully as it works differently for various people, and one can know because of its effects. How long does CBD last in your System? This question is important if a person wants to understand how long the drug’s effects last. Mostly, this question is hard to answer as drugs interact with people’s systems differently. Normally cannabis marijuana stays in the System for longer than other drugs like cocaine. This article explains how long CBD will stay in an individual system upon consumption.
In most cases, CBD stays in the System for 2-30 days. This range is versatile as it can stay longer for other people. One of the main factors that affect how long CBD will last in your System is the method of use. The following are the different modes of consumption and how long they last.
It can be gummies, capsules, and edibles, meaning the compound has to be digested and absorbed into a person’s body system. It goes through your digestive system before being broken down in the liver and absorbed into one's bloodstream. Because of these processes, CBD edibles may last longer in the body system before the body gradually breaks the compound down completely. They typically last 6-8 hours in most people.
According to Liu (2019), this is one of the most effective methods of using CBD products. It is done so by adding a few drops under the tongue. A high percentage of CBD is absorbed directly into the bloodstream through this ingestion process. That means it works relatively faster through your System than edibles. It typically lasts in the System for up to 2-4 hours.
It is one of the fastest ways to get cannabidiol into your System. It also bypasses the digestive system and allows CBD to enter the bloodstream quickly. It is estimated that CBD will last in the body for up to 5-6 hours after being vaped once. If used regularly, it may take up to a week to be eliminated from the System.
These are products applied to the skin directly. CBD administered through this form lasts in the System for 2-5 days. However, this information is disputed as some experts argue that these products are not absorbed into the skin.
Different factors affect how long CBD lasts in an individual’s System. Some are unique personal factors, and others are prescriptions. The following is a breakdown of these factors.
Human beings are created with different and unique bodies. Rub (2022) explained that the body is the ultimate decider of how long CBD lasts in your System. A body's mass index, water content, and metabolism affect the total timespan of CBD in one's body. It is unique for every person. For example, CBD is fat-soluble, meaning that it is stored in your body's fat cells; therefore, your Body Mass Index will determine how quickly it is metabolized. The lower your body mass and weight, the faster it will leave your System. The same line of thought works if one exercises regularly. The chances of burning off the stored CBD are greater, thus increasing the chances of CBD leaving the System faster.
According to Johnson et al. (2013), the longer you use CBD, the higher the chances that CBD will stay longer in your System. As mentioned above, CBD is highly soluble in fat. After regular use, there can be a lot of buildup of the product in the tissues, thus remaining in the System for a prolonged period.
It goes in hand with the frequency of use and the amount of concentration in the supplements issued in your dose. In terms of quantity of the dose, the higher the dosage of CBD, the longer your body will take to process and metabolize it. Vaughn et al. (2020) explained that there is no exact approximation of time to determine how long CBD stays in your body in terms of dosage as results vary from person to person.
How much and when you eat matters in how long CBD will take to reach its full concentration in the blood. After eating, it takes rather longer than taking CBD on an empty stomach. The body also takes time to get rid of CBD when fed rather than when one is fasting.
The higher the concentration of CBD, the longer it stays in your System. Most pure CBD products have a higher concentration and thus will remain in your System for longer hours, unlike products with additives or fillers. Besides the blood and the whole System, CBD can be traced in other body fluids. For example, it lasts in your urine in the case of single exposures for up to 3 days to 2 weeks if taken regularly after the last consumption. CBD lasts in your saliva for up to about 72 hours. A frequent user of edibles or oral CBD might extend this detection window. While the various methods that introduce CBD to the bloodstream, like vaping, stay up to 2 hours, orals last up to 4 hours a week.
The timeframe for CBD staying in your System is highly dependent on various factors like a method of consumption, metabolism, how much you eat, dosage, and frequency of use. As discussed, not all methods enter the bloodstream; others are absorbed into the digestive system while others are into your skin's receptors. It isn't easy to give a specific timeline of how long CBD stays in one's System as there are different bodies and, therefore, different responses to these products. The above are timelines of average people. To understand how much CBD will last in your System, you need to experiment and evaluate yourself.
