According to Public Health England(PHE), vaping is 95% safer than smoking and can help smokers quit. The National Health Service(NHS) agrees with this, stating that nicotine vaping allows you to control the amount of nicotine that gets into your system to ease the cravings and withdrawal symptoms such as irritability and low mood. As more and more people transition to vaping as an alternative to smoking, the CBD world continues to show it can also accommodate them. A study by the University College London suggests that CBD could suppress nicotine addiction. That is why it comes in different forms, such as CBD-infused pens. This fascinating compound is also associated with many other benefits, such as stress or anxiety reduction, pain, and epilepsy or seizure management. If you want to try cannabidiol vape pens but don't know where to start, this article has all you need to know about these little devices. From what they are and types to how to use them, it can help you build a fulfilling experience.
Cannabidiol vape pens are e-cigarettes that are used to deliver CBD and other beneficial compounds found in cannabis plants into the bloodstream. Unlike other forms of CBD consumption such as gummies or capsules, vape pens allow CBD to be absorbed into the bloodstream through the lungs, increasing its absorption rate and bioavailability. This means that you not only get a rapid onset of positive effects but also get the most out of the dosage you've consumed. Another advantage cannabidiol vape pens have over other forms of CBD is that they are designed with convenience in mind. You don't need to carry water bottles around to enjoy the wellness benefits of CBD. Furthermore, most of them resemble traditional pens, allowing you to harness the power of CBD without drawing attention.
CBD oil comes with an integrated rechargeable lithium battery. It provides the energy needed to heat the atomizer to up to 400 degrees Fahrenheit in seconds.
The atomizer is a coil that vaporises the e-liquid, in this case, CBD vape juice. It is also known as the heating element.
The cartridge cart dab cart oil cart or tank holds the e-liquid (CBD-infused vape oil). It can be pre-loaded or refillable. A preloaded cartridge comes already filled with CBD vape oil and other ingredients such as carrier liquids (Propylene glycol and vegetable glycerine) and flavorings. Refillable cartridges, on the other hand, can be refilled with e-liquid and used for a long time. The cartridge can be combined with an atomizer into a single unit.
This is where you place your mouth and draw vapor from the heating chamber. The mouthpiece is made from high-quality and easy-to-wash materials such as silicone and glass.
Some CBD-infused vape pens come with additional features such as airflow control. This allows users to control the amount of fresh air that can get into the device when it's activated. Adjusting the airflow allows users to get the vapor density and temperature that aligns with their preferences.
Some CBD-infused vape pens come with a button you can press to activate the device. Others are draw-activated, meaning they turn on as soon as you inhale from the mouthpiece. These devices often come with sensors that help them turn on when you inhale.
A LED indicator tells the user when the device is on or the battery is running low. It can also indicate that the device is charging properly.
The charging port is a part of the vape pen that allows you to recharge the battery. Your vape pen may have a standard micro-USB or USB-C port for charging the battery.
When you activate the device, the battery heats the atomizer, which in turn, converts the e-liquid into vapor. You inhale this vapor through the mouthpiece and send it to your lungs. Inside the lungs, CBD is absorbed into the bloodstream through the alveoli. Once in your system, CBD will interact with the endocannabinoid receptors found throughout the body. A study by King's College London found that CBD does this indirectly. This interaction results in a stronger endocannabinoid system, resulting in positive effects such as reduced symptoms of anxiety, low pain levels, and better sleep.
First, check if your device has enough power for your session. If you have a refillable vape, be sure to charge it before vaping. Disposable vapes come pre-charged and ready for use out of the box. After charging your device, inhale from the mouthpiece. If your device is not air-activated, press the button multiple times until the LED indicator blinks in response. From there, start inhaling, drawing the vapour into your lungs.
If you are new to vaping CBD, start with 10mg of CBD per session as you note how your body responds. Gradually increase the dosage until you get the effects you are looking for. Once in your lungs, hold the vapour for as long as you possibly can. This gives CBD enough time to get into your bloodstream. Finally, release a deep exhale and take puffs as needed.
A study in the British Medical Journal(BMJ) suggests CBD can help in pain management. A study conducted by the University of Oxford also found that CBD can provide pain relief. Researchers at Imperial College London believe that CBD’s pain-relieving properties stem from its interaction with receptors in the endocannabinoid system.
A study in the British Journal of Pharmacology found that CBD can elbow out anxiety-related disorders. Another study in the Journal of Psychopharmacology suggests that CBD can help with social anxiety disorder(SAD).
According to a study led by the King’s College London and funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre, CBD can reduce psychosis symptoms.
Professor Philip McGuire, the lead author, from King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), said: ‘Conventional antipsychotic drugs act by blocking dopamine receptors. However, dopamine is not the only neurotransmitter whose function is altered in psychosis, and in some patients, dopamine function may be relatively normal. We need new classes of treatment that target different neurotransmitter systems.
'Although it is still unclear exactly how CBD works, it acts in a different way to antipsychotic medication and thus could represent a new class of treatment. The study indicated that CBD may be effective in psychosis: patients treated with CBD showed a significant reduction in symptoms, and their treating psychiatrists rated them as having improved overall.
‘Moreover, CBD was not associated with significant side effects. This is also potentially important, as patients may be reluctant to take antipsychotic medication because of concerns about side effects.’
Professor McGuire added: ‘The next steps are to carry out larger trials of CBD to confirm these initial promising findings, and to assess the effectiveness of CBD in other types of patient. Our research group at King’s has recently been funded by NIHR to conduct a UK-wide trial of CBD in people at high risk of developing psychosis.’
A study in the British Journal of Pharmacology found that CBD has neuroprotective properties, which can eliminate epilepsy and neurodegenerative disorders. A study conducted by the University of Reading found that CBD reverses epilepsy. Another study from the New England Journal of Medicine suggests CBD can treat a form of epilepsy called Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
The National Health Service(NHS) and Epilepsy Action recognize the potential of CBD in managing epilepsy. In 2019, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence(NICE) issued a guideline for prescribing cannabis-based medicinal products to people with epilepsy.
A study conducted by the University of Dundee and published in Redox Biology suggests CBD contains anti-inflammatory properties that reverse skin problems associated with chronic inflammation such as psoriasis, acne, and dermatitis.
Dr. Laureano de la Vega, a Cancer Cell Biologist at the University of Dundee said: “CBD has been promoted as a medical holy grail that supposedly can cure a vast array of conditions including anxiety, depression, inflammation, cancer and acne. Because of this, we wanted to reveal what CBD was actually doing in the cells of our skin, and use that to inform the potential use of CBD for skin conditions.
“Despite proven anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and neuroprotective effects and the multi-billion-dollar industry of CBD-based products, its mechanism of action was not known and its general use lacked a scientific rationale.
“We, for the first time, have identified one of its mechanisms of action that can explain some of its beneficial effects in the skin. Now, with this information there is a basis to its use in cream-based products. Importantly, although CBD-based creams might be beneficial against some skin conditions, such as Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex or to delay skin aging, our study also shows that CBD should be used with precaution in hyperproliferative skin disorders, such as psoriasis.”
Dr. de la Vega and his colleagues found that CBD influences BACH1, a protein that regulates the expression of genes responsible for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways. Thus, its interaction with CBD could treat skin disorders associated with inflammation such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, and dermatitis.
“Our findings were very exciting, as they connected CBD with this well-known protective pathway,” continued Dr de la Vega. “This would explain some of the claimed benefits of CBD in skin. Furthermore, the target identified is very relevant not only in skin conditions, but also, in lung and breast cancer.
“Therefore, our research opens the door for future cancer research based on the potential use of CBD, or CBD derivatives, as cancer therapeutics. This does not mean that CBD will cure cancer, it just mean that now we have a rationale to investigate its potential in cancer research.”
Pre-filled disposable vape pens are designed to make vaping CBD easy. They come pre-charged and pre-measured, eliminating the need to recharge or refill them. When the battery runs low or the e-liquid gets used up, simply dispose of it and get another device.
As the name suggests, these options are designed for long-term use. They are not ideal for beginners because they require skills. Before using them, one should know how to fill and empty the tank and choose CBD vape oils that are compatible with the device. They are also expensive compared to disposable vape pens. Most people love these devices because they produce more vapour than other options in the market. They also come with variable voltage settings that allow users to have full control over puff sizes and strength levels.
These devices work with compatible external batteries or mods. They are made of glass and come with a ceramic heating element that creates a clean and pure flavour. These devices are expensive and it takes a sustained effort to set them up. In exchange for this extra time and money, they give you more vapour.
Finding the best CBD e-cigarette allows you to experience the effects you are looking for. Here is how to go about it.
Look for CBD e-cigarettes that contain CBD extracted from organically grown hemp. This is hemp that was not maintained with pesticides, fertilizer, or hormones, which can be harmful.
There are three types of CBD extracts out there. The first type is a full-spectrum extract, which contains all the compounds found in the cannabis plant. It is known for the entourage effect, which simply means the compounds enhance the effects of each other. However, the extract can make you feel high because it contains high levels of THC.
The next type is a broad-spectrum extract, which contains most cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids, but carries a very small amount of THC. Some extracts may even come with 0% THC. This makes the extract a great choice for people who want to enjoy the wellness benefits of CBD without experiencing the mind-altering effects. The last type is CBD isolate extract, which only contains CBD. It is ideal for people who are not interested in full plant benefits.
Go through the ingredients list to confirm if the product has ingredients such as carrier liquids (propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin). Avoid products with excessive additives and flavourings.
Choose vape pens that have been tested by external laboratories. Check if the brand or source displays the independent lab report on their website to avoid buying a mislabelled product.
Check if the device is made of safe materials such as stainless steel. Also, verify that the mouthpiece is friendly to your mouth, controls allow you to adjust the setting without effort and the battery connection is secure.
If you want a vape pen designed for short-term use, then disposable vapes can be perfect for you. If you want a device that you can refill multiple times, go for rechargeable and reusable options.
CBD e-cigarettes work with e-liquids with different flavours. Choose products that use natural flavourings such as terpenes, which can contribute to a better overall experience.
If you want a CBD e-cigarette that offers a rechargeable option, then go pick a device with a long-lasting battery. This ensures that your sessions will be uninterrupted, especially if you enjoy vaping frequently.
Prioritise devices with additional features such as temperature control and airflow. These features give you full control over your vaping experience.
The Home Office stipulates that a licensed hemp grower should cultivate a cannabis strain that contains no more than 0.3% THC. This means that THC-free vape pens containing non-detectable or no THC are legal in the UK. On the other hand, the Food Standards Agency(FSA) ensures that all CBD products sold or used in the UK are made from CBD extracted from EU-certified industrial hemp. It also ensures that manufacturers' CBD products are labelled properly and have safety standards.
THC-free vape pens aren’t the only CBD products out there. If vaping is not your thing, incorporate the following products into your self-care or wellness routine.
CBD gummies are edible candies with a good amount of cannabidiol. They are chewed and swallowed like regular gummies, allowing CBD to be absorbed into the bloodstream through the digestive system. Their effects take 30 to 2 hours to show and can last for 4 to 6 hours and up to 12 hours. If you are vegetarian or vegan, vegan gummies are a great way to incorporate CBD into your routine without compromising your dietary principles.
CBD-infused oils contain a CBD extract and carrier oils such as olive oil or hemp seed oil. They are designed for use under the tongue or sublingual administration, which provides a rapid onset of positive effects. CBD oils have a strong earthy taste and smell, which many people don't like.
CBD capsules are products that allow you to get a dose of CBD in capsule form. They are easy to use and offer discretion. Like gummies, they reduce the absorption and bioavailability of CBD. They are ideal for people who hate the smell and taste of CBD and can be used when vaping isn’t possible.
If you have aches, pain, or irritation, CBD topicals are the products to look for. They come in many forms, such as creams, salves, lotions, and roll-ons that are applied to affected external parts of the body, providing localised pain relief and fighting skin problems such as psoriasis and acne.
Vaping CBD allows the compound to bypass the rigorous digestive system, increasing its absorption rate and bioavailability. This can lead to the rapid onset of quality effects.
A disposable vape is ideal for people new to vaping CBD. However, you can graduate with a vape kit that you fill with e-liquid yourself, allowing for customizable and more powerful positive outcomes.
If you have an air-activated vape pen, start inhaling from the mouthpiece once you take it out of the packaging. If you have a vape pen with a button, click it multiple times to power it on before you vape.
Start with 10 mg of CBD per session if you are new to vaping CBD. If you are an expert, do not exceed 70 mg per session.
CBD vapes and other CBD products can be legal if they are made from CBD extracted from EU-certified industrial hemp. This hemp contains very small amounts of THC and more CBD. As a result, it is less likely to make people feel high.
CBD concentrate pens are one of the quickest and most effective ways to harness the power of CBD. These devices deliver CBD into your bloodstream faster than other forms of CBD such as gummies or capsules, which can lead to instantaneous effects. Additionally, a big part of the dosage makes it to the bloodstream, which contributes to quality effects. If you are a smoker trying to transition to the vaping world, vaping CBD can help you beat nicotine addiction. It can also reduce anxiety or stress, ease chronic pain, and reverse epilepsy and neurodegenerative disorders. The effects of vape pen show after 10 to 20 minutes and last between 2 to 6 hours.
