Sweating may not be your current favourite past-time activity, however it’s about to sound much more glamorous than you may currently believe it to be.

Infrared saunas have been on the rise in the wellness world for a long while now, and for a good reason too.

This practice had begun from Roman times, and has continued to be used throughout centuries due to the many benefits of sweating - so no, choosing to sit in a really hot room just to sweat isn’t a weird 21st century trend ok.

Sweating enables a full body cleanse, by ridding the body of toxins through the skin - our largest organ.

Sauna vs Infrared Sauna

Although both the traditional sauna and the infrared sauna are assured to make you sweat, both provide different benefits due to how the room is heated.

Whereas a traditional sauna is heated through the walls, or traditionally by using wood stoves, a warm environment is created due to the increase in the room’s humidity, temperature, and production of steam.

The more modern infrared sauna on the other hand, enhances the heating effect of the sauna through the use of light to create a direct heating effect on those using it, allowing the heat to penetrate the individual and feel the effects of the heat from within.

If you’re still not sold on the glamours of sweating, here are a few of the benefits of infrared saunas:

Skin Health

The term “I’m not glowing, it’s just my sweat” is invalid after a trip to the infrared sauna. You’ll be glowing because of your sweat sesh.

According to Jeremy Fenton, M.D, infrared saunas have the potential to promote healing and the production of collagen - a fibrous protein that make up a large proportion of your skin, and attribute to your skin’s elasticity and wellbeing.

The heat also allows you to leave with a natural, rosy glow, and newly cleansed skin!

Sauna therapy has been around for centuries as a way to detoxify your body, but infrared saunas can go even further by heating up your body’s core to a cellular level (where most toxins are stored) helping stimulate the release of toxins and sweating out all the pollution in your skin. Making them perfect if you live in big cities (or like to indulge in loads of cheese and wine on the weekend, we're not judging <3)

Muscle Recovery

After sweating it out at SoulCycle or a hot pilates class, why not sweat it out even more to receive the ultimate benefits, and proper muscle aid?

Based on a study in 2015, the heat provided by the infrared sauna allow the body’s neuromuscular system to recover from heavy performance, as well as enhancing endurance.

The infrared sauna serves as as the perfect post-workout relaxer, bidding a sweet farewell to fatigue.

Immune Boosting

The increase in temperature imitates fever-like conditions without the symptoms, therefore signalling the body’s immune system to perform at optimal levels; this increases the body’s ability to eliminate any toxins or pathogens. Paired with the endorphin-inducing effect of an infrared sauna session, this overall allows you to leave with both you and your immune system on cloud nine.

Are Infrared Saunas worth it?

With a wide variety of benefits, both externally and internally, as well as a new and fun way to relax, an infrared sauna session serves as a must at glow bar. It is the perfect way to unwind, rejuvenate, and boost your inner and outer glow, so click here to book your session now!
