CBD, which is short for cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid found in cannabis, marijuana, and hemp. It is found in large quantities in hemp while its cousin, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) rules in the marijuana world. CBD is non-psychoactive, meaning it doesn't cause the "high" sensation associated with marijuana. It is increasingly becoming popular in the wellness world due to its many health benefits. For this reason, some people choose to take it as food, while others prefer to vape it. To vape CBD, you need a vaping device and CBD e-liquid. CBD oil cartridges are one of the most popular vaping devices in the UK. People like them because they are made with ease of use and convenience in mind. If you want to get into the world of CBD with CBD oil cartridges but don't know where to start, this blog has everything you need to know about these devices. Keep reading to build a good impression of CBD.
“CBD vapouriser cartridges are cylindrical vape tanks that hold CBD e-liquid,” says Dr. Rimas Geiga, a respected dietician. “This liquid is a mix of CBD extract and high-quality carrier liquids such as carrier oils (propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin) and flavourings,” he adds. “PG and VG enhance vapourisation and allow you to enjoy a delicious cloud infused with CBD.” CBD vaporiser cartridges are used with rechargeable vape batteries, which provide the energy to heat the CBD vape oil, creating vapour. These devices are available in two types. The first type is disposable CBD vapouriser cartridges, which come pre-loaded with CBD vape oil. Once the vape oil gets used up, simply dispose of the device and get a new one. The other type is a refillable CBD oil cartridge. These options are designed for long-term use. You can fill them with e-liquid multiple times, allowing you to work with your ideal flavours and strength levels.
Vape batteries come with a heating element that converts the CBD vape juice into tiny airborne droplets. When you activate the battery, it releases enough power that flow to the heating element. When the heating element receives the energy, it begins to heat up, transferring the power to the coil. The coil then vapourises CBD oil in the cartridge.
You inhale this vapour, welcoming CBD to your lungs. Inside the lungs, CBD finds its way into the bloodstream through the alveoli. Once in your system, CBD will travel to various parts of the body, allowing it to interact with the endocannabinoid system(ECS). The ECS is a complex cell-signaling system that controls various functions, such as pain response, sleep, appetite, mood, and immune response.
The interaction leads to a stronger ECS, allowing you to defeat health problems such as anxiety or stress, chronic pain, psychosis, and epilepsy. Because THC-free vape cartridges allow CBD to avoid the rigorous digestive system, you will experience the effects within 10 to 20 minutes. These effects can last between 2 to 6 hours.
Start by attaching the cartridge to a 510-thread battery. These vape pen batteries can work with most cartridges, meaning you experience too much difficulty looking for one to use with your device. After that, press the button on the battery to create vapour. Hold the vapour in your lungs for as long as you can before you exhale to allow more CBD to be absorbed into the bloodstream
You can also use your CBD vape cart with a vape pen. In this case, attach the cartridge to the pen and press the button to get vapour. If your pen is air-activated, simply inhale from the mouthpiece after confirming the cartridge is securely attached to the pen.
If you are new to vaping CBD, start with 10 mg per session and pay attention to how your body reacts. If you are an expert, be sure not to exceed 70 mg per session. Vape every 5-6 hours with a maximum of 4 times daily.
According to a study in the British Medical Journal(BMJ) CBD can reduce pain in chronic pain and inflammation patients. A study conducted by the University of Oxford also found that CBD can treat pain. Researchers at Imperial College London believe that CBD’s pain-relieving properties are born when it interacts with the endocannabinoid system.
A study in the British Journal of Pharmacology found that CBD reduces the symptoms of anxiety-related disorders. Another study in the Journal of Psychopharmacology suggests that CBD can restore calmness In people with social anxiety disorder(SAD).
A study led by the King’s College London and funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre found that CBD can ease psychosis symptoms.
Professor Philip McGuire, the lead author, from King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), said: ‘Conventional antipsychotic drugs act by blocking dopamine receptors. However, dopamine is not the only neurotransmitter whose function is altered in psychosis, and in some patients, dopamine function may be relatively normal. We need new classes of treatment that target different neurotransmitter systems.
'Although it is still unclear exactly how CBD works, it acts in a different way to antipsychotic medication and thus could represent a new class of treatment. The study indicated that CBD may be effective in psychosis: patients treated with CBD showed a significant reduction in symptoms, and their treating psychiatrists rated them as having improved overall.
‘Moreover, CBD was not associated with significant side effects. This is also potentially important, as patients may be reluctant to take antipsychotic medication because of concerns about side effects.’
Professor McGuire added: ‘The next steps are to carry out larger trials of CBD to confirm these initial promising findings, and to assess the effectiveness of CBD in other types of patient. Our research group at King’s has recently been funded by NIHR to conduct a UK-wide trial of CBD in people at high risk of developing psychosis.’
A study in the British Journal of Pharmacology found that CBD has neuroprotective properties, which can cure epilepsy and neurodegenerative disorders. A study conducted by the University of Reading found that CBD can treat epilepsy. Another study from the New England Journal of Medicine suggests CBD can improve the quality of life in people suffering from Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, a form of epilepsy.
The National Health Service(NHS) and Epilepsy Action recognize the potential of CBD in managing epilepsy. In 2019, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence(NICE) issued a guideline for prescribing cannabis-based medicinal products to people with epilepsy.
A study conducted by the University of Dundee and published in Redox Biology suggests CBD contains anti-inflammatory properties that address skin disorders caused by chronic inflammation such as psoriasis, acne and dermatitis.
Dr. Laureano de la Vega, a Cancer Cell Biologist at the University of Dundee said: “CBD has been promoted as a medical holy grail that supposedly can cure a vast array of conditions including anxiety, depression, inflammation, cancer and acne. Because of this, we wanted to reveal what CBD was actually doing in the cells of our skin, and use that to inform the potential use of CBD for skin conditions.
“Despite proven anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and neuroprotective effects and the multi-billion-dollar industry of CBD-based products, its mechanism of action was not known and its general use lacked a scientific rationale.
“We, for the first time, have identified one of its mechanisms of action that can explain some of its beneficial effects in the skin. Now, with this information there is a basis to its use in cream-based products. Importantly, although CBD-based creams might be beneficial against some skin conditions, such as Epidermolysis Bullosa Simplex or to delay skin aging, our study also shows that CBD should be used with precaution in hyperproliferative skin disorders, such as psoriasis.”
According to Dr. de la Vega and his team, CBD interacts with BACH1, a protein that regulates the expression of genes that keep antioxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways in check. Thus, its interaction with CBD could address skin disorders caused by high levels of inflammation such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, and dermatitis.
“Our findings were very exciting, as they connected CBD with this well-known protective pathway,” continued Dr de la Vega. “This would explain some of the claimed benefits of CBD in skin. Furthermore, the target identified is very relevant not only in skin conditions, but also, in lung and breast cancer.
“Therefore, our research opens the door for future cancer research based on the potential use of CBD, or CBD derivatives, as cancer therapeutics. This does not mean that CBD will cure cancer, it just mean that now we have a rationale to investigate its potential in cancer research.”
Choosing the best CBD vape cart will give you the effects you are looking for. Here is how to go about it.
Look for CBD vape carts made from CBD extracted from organically grown hemp. In doing so, you will avoid the harmful effects of substances used to maintain hemp, such as hormones and pesticides.
CBD vape carts contain different CBD spectrums, including full-spectrum, broad-spectrum and CBD isolate. Full-spectrum CBD contains all the compounds found in cannabis plants, including cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. When these compounds work together synergistically, they leave you with the entourage effect. However, full-spectrum products tend to make people feel high due to high THC levels and can be illegal in the UK.
Broad-spectrum CBD retains most of the compounds found in cannabis while significantly reducing THC levels or removing the compound completely. As a result, it is less likely to cause a high sensation. CBD isolate, on the other hand, carries CBD only. This type of CBD is ideal if you don't want to experience the full plant benefits.
A high-quality CBD oil vape cartridge undergoes third-party testing by an external laboratory. This ensures that users get the product they have paid for. Independent lab reports should be displayed on the brand’s website. If they are not there, request them.
Verify that the product has high-quality components and contains minimal additives or artificial ingredients.
CBD vape oils used in CBD oil vape cartridges come with natural and artificial flavours. The choice of your favourite flavour depends on your preferences.
Disposable cartridges come with convenience but are relatively cheap. Refillable cartridges, on the other hand, give you control over your vaping experience but are more cost-effective. Choose the type that meets your needs and preferences.
If you have a vape pen, verify that it can work with your cannabidiol vape cartridge. Its voltage and functionality should not affect the performance of the vape cart.
According to the Home Office, a licensed hemp grower should cultivate a cannabis strain that contains no more than 0.3% THC. This means that cannabidiol vape cartridges containing little or no THC can be legally bought in the UK. On the other hand, the Food Standards Agency(FSA) ensures manufacturers produce and sell products extracted from EU-certified industrial hemp. These products should also adhere to the labeling and safety regulations.
There are many other ways to harness the power of CBD if you don’t like vaping. Here are other ways you can enjoy the effects of this cannabinoid.
CBD tinctures are base oils (olive oil or hemp seed oil) infused with CBD. They are enjoyed through sublingual admiration, which allows CBD to enter the bloodstream through the gums and mucous membranes. Like CBD vape oils, tinctures provide a rapid onset of results. However, some people may avoid them due to their strong earthy taste and smell.
CBD edibles are gummies, vegan gummies, dried fruits, and capsules with cannabidiol. They are ideal for people who are sensitive to CBD oils or those who want to enjoy CBD without inhalation.
CBD in topical products such as creams, lotions, salves, balms, roll-ons, and patches works without getting into the bloodstream. These products are designed for external use only and are mainly used to provide localised pain relief or treat skin conditions.
Start by checking if the battery has enough power for the session. Once you do that, attach it to the cartridge and press the activation mechanism. This will create vapour that you will inhale.
There are set wattage cartridges that allow you to use the watts set by the manufacturer. Others come with adjustable settings that allow you to change wattage or voltage and control your vaping experience. If you are using the latter, start with 10 watts and gradually work your way up as needed. Do not exceed 30 watts to avoid vaporising the oil with excessive heat, which can make cannabinoids and other beneficial compounds in the oil less powerful.
How long the cartridge lasts can vary depending on the cartridge size, wattage settings, inhalation size, vaping frequency, and CBD concentration.
Yes, but not all vape cartridges offer the refilling option. You can only refill refillable cartridges. Disposable options are designed for short-term use and should be disposed of when the vape oil gets used up.
Consider the source of CBD, type of CBD extract, CBD concentration, independent lab reports, brand reputation, and price. All these can help you buy a product that delivers the results you are looking for.
The vaporiser converts the CBD vape oil into a fine mist that you inhale and draw CBD into the lungs. Inside the lungs, CBD will be quickly absorbed into the bloodstream and start interacting with the endocannabinoid system.
Vaping CBD vape oil shouldn’t get you high. The reason for this is that CBD is a non-psychoactive compound, meaning it won’t cause mind-altering effects. Additionally, legal vape oils contain no detectable or no THC, a compound that causes the “high” sensation.
Vaping CBD delivers CBD into the bloodstream than other forms of CBD, such as gummies and capsules. It also ensures most of the CBD makes it to your bloodstream, which can lead to quality instantaneous results. When CBD gets into your bloodstream and interacts with the endocannabinoid system, you may experience a plethora of positive outcomes such as reduced anxiety symptoms, high energy levels, better sleep at night, and low pain levels. If you don't like vaping, you can experience these positive effects through other CBD products in the market.
