    Introduction

The popularity of CBD and its legalization has led many individuals to consume it for different purposes. Some are using CBD for recreational purposes, and others for health purposes. Since it is legal, the individual is free to consume the product across the United States, but one should check with their state laws. Not all states allow the consumption of CBD and related products. CBD products should not contain more than 0.3% THC levels as they are intoxicating and psychoactive. CBD makes an individual relaxed with no side effects, making it a better choice for many. CBD is associated with various therapeutic properties like pain reduction, anti-inflammatory properties, and anxiety and depression reduction.

    What is CBD

CBD is the short form of cannabidiol extracted from the hemp plant. It is legally accepted, making it widely used in the United States. It is sourced from the cannabis and marijuana plant. But cannabis is legally accepted because it contains more CBD than THC, unlike marijuana which contains more THC than CBD. It is safe for consumption, and on consumption, it makes an individual feel calm rather than intoxicated with a high feeling. CBD is non-intoxicating and non-psychoactive, making it widely accommodated. Individuals can obtain CBD in various types, including CBD isolate, Broad spectrum CBD and full-spectrum CBD. The difference is the number of compounds contained within and the effects after consumption. CBD isolate contains only CBD and is one of the best in the market. Broad spectrum is seen to contain all the compounds extracted from the hemp plant but no THC making it a preferred product in the market as one cannot feel high and can still benefit from the entourage effects. Full-spectrum CBD contains all the compounds from the hemp plant. One tends to feel high and the entourage effect.

CBD And a Good Night Sleep

The cannabis sativa plant contains various compounds, and CBD is the second most abundant compound and can benefit individuals with good sleep. Individuals with different sleeping disorders like restless leg syndrome can benefit from CBD. Some factors like pain and anxiety can make it hard for an individual to sleep. CBD consumption can help reduce these aspects by reducing anxiety levels and easing pain, making it possible to sleep.

    Insomnia

The hypothalamus in an individual's brain helps control various sleep-related functions andsynchronize an individual's sleeping pattern. Suraev et al. (2020) explained that when one consumes CBD, it can help manage insomnia as it works with the hypothalamus to help regulate the stress levels in an individual. Insomnia is a result of overactive stress reactions that interfere with rest time. Consumption of CBD help suppress the dysregulated stress hormone cycle and equalize the sleep and wake rhythm by counteracting the hormones. CBD is seen to decrease the symptoms of insomnia, thus making an individual able to fall asleep.

    Circadian Rhythm Disorders

This rhythm is also known as the sleep-wake cycle disorder and occurs in an individual when the body's internal clock, whichdictates when one falls asleep and wakes up, is not aligned with the surrounding environment. The disorder can develop when there is a change in sleeping habits due to travel, work, genetics, or medical condition. Datta et al. (2021) explained that consumption of CBD tend to improve the quantity and quality of one’s sleep by ensuring the body is through normal sleeping stages, thus benefiting individual with such disorders. CBD interacts with the cannabinoid receptors, resulting in natural sleep timing based on the daily rhythm of the day and night.

    Anxiety

Schleicher et al. (2019)stated that anxiety is treated through CBD. One can have a good night's sleep by consuming CBD, which helps reduce an individual's anxiety level. Consumption of CBD helps calm intrusive thoughts of an individual before they lay down to sleep. CBD is seen to interact with the endocannabinoid receptors in the limbic system. Lack of equilibrium in the limbic system can lead to insomnia and anxiety. CBD helps activate the endocannabinoid system (ECS), thus helping in repressing memories and resulting in better sleep. It is a great equalizer as it helps restore hormone balance.

    Restless Leg Syndrome

It is a neurological condition that affects an individual's quality and quantity of sleep by causing uncontrollable and unpleasant urges to move the legs. Kogan & Mechoulam (2022) explained that CBD could reduce the frequency of abnormal nerve firing, resulting in muscles twitching involuntarily. CBD helps to counter the symptoms related to restless leg syndrome resulting in better sleep.

    Chronic Pain

Individuals experiencing chronic pain find it hard to fall asleep. CBD can help in pain relief. When topically applied in targeted areas, products like CBD oil reduce pain and swelling associated with inflammation. CBD that is used topically or ingested can have analgesic properties. When one manages pain, they can relax their body and mind without much problem.

    Side Effects Of CBD

CBD is legal and safe for consumption. When an individual overdoses, they can experience some relatively uncommon side effects. Some common side effects that are mild are diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss, fatigue, and drowsiness. One should consult a doctor on the instruction and dosages to prevent any adverse effects from consuming CBD. One should always be cautious when consuming CBD.

    Conclusion

CBD can aid a good night's sleep as it can help counter various sleeping disorders like restless leg syndrome and insomnia. One is advised to be keen as CBD on overdosing can result in various effects. CBD is associated with various therapeutic effects like pain relief, inflammation reduction, anxiety, and depression. As a legal product and compound in the United States, the THC levels that are federally accepted should not be more than 0.3%, as it can intoxicate an individual.
