How CBD Can Help In Treating Thyroid Disorder?

Thyroid disease is mainly caused by the limited production of enzymes. CBD is a useful organic compound with anti-inflammatory properties suitable for balancing inflammation within our bodies.

CBD is gaining popularity due to its therapeutic benefits. It works with other compounds from the organic hemp plant to improve general health and wellness in humans and pets. Most therapeutic researchers are interested in the plant due to its potential health benefits. The important elements of hemp are terpenes, flavonoids, cannabidiol (CBD), and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). You can use full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, or isolate CBD to treat thyroid disorder. The thyroid is a small organ wrapped in the trachea at the front of your neck. It produces hormones that are useful for different body functions. Thyroid disease limits it from producing adequate hormones for various body functions, including metabolism.

    What is CBD?

It is an organic compound found in cannabis sativa or hemp plants. Cannabidiol (CBD) interacts with our body's cannabinoids ensuring hormone regulation. Although there are limited clinical trials on the impact of CBD on the thyroid, its properties can be associated with regulating hormones. CBD is either in the broad-spectrum, full-spectrum or isolate form, differentiated by the elements found in each. Unlike THC, CBD is considered safe, with little or no effects. Terpenes and flavonoids are found in other plants such as fruits and vegetables. However, they are significant in improving the entourage effect of the broad and full spectrum.

    Impact of CBD On Thyroid

Our body's endocannabinoid system (ECS) has influenced various operations, including regulating thyroid function. According to Pirahanchi, Toro & Jialal (2018), thyroids contain B1 receptors, responsible for hormone regulation. A section of our brains contains endocannabinoid receptors transmitting signals to the glands. According to Thambirajah et al. (2019), CBD influences the general body's performance, including thyroid glands. Notably, there are different thyroid disorders; goiter, nodules, and cancer. According to Park Hy Gia & Charles (2019), regular use of CBD oil for thyroid helps individuals moderate their body weight by stopping diarrhea and reestablishment appetite.

    Does CBD Affect Thyroid Medication

Although CBD has various health benefits, nearly all of them are yet to be approved. Currently, the only health benefit approved by the FDA is treating epilepsy. There is no clinical trial showing the impact of CBD on thyroid medication. Available trials only show how CBD regulates hormone production but does not treat thyroid as is evident for Levothyroxine. Therefore, before using CBD oil for thyroid, talk to a doctor for guidance and to help you determine the possible risks.

    Is CBD Legal?

The legality of CBD oil is important to avoid violating federal or state laws. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized CBD. Although it is noted to have various health benefits, it also has side effects, leading to its restriction in some countries and states in the US. According to the 2018 Farm Bill, CBD is only legal with THC levels below 0.3%. This applies to all states in the US. However, the 2018 Farm Bill gave states a mandate to determine whether hemp-based products should be legal within their territories. As a result, some states, such as Nebraska and Idaho, restricted the use of CBD products, including for medicinal value. Therefore, before traveling in some states, confirm the legality of CBD products to avoid violating federal laws.

    Is CBD Safe?

    CBD has no side effects unless taken at high potency levels. According to Liu (2019), extreme potency levels lead to dizziness, dry lips, dizziness, and anxiety. However, some factors can interfere with the safety of CBD oil. They include;

    Other Elements

Although CBD might not be practical, other elements blended into it can improve its efficiency. Although blending CBD with other organic elements is important for improving its effectiveness, it should be organic. Organic elements are friendly and don't interfere with the bonding of cannabinoids. They also offer long-lasting solutions, unlike artificial ones. Avoid CBD products with artificial elements such as potassium since they interfere with purity levels.

    Extraction Process

The extraction process to obtain useful elements from the hemp plant determines its purity levels. CO2 and ethanol are the common extraction methods in the hemp-based industry. Ethanol is suitable for large-scale production. However, it involves various chemicals, exposing the end products and environment to contamination. According to Rochfort et al. (2020), supercritical CO2 is effective and clean. It involves minimum chemicals, avoiding contamination.

    Lab Results

The lab results of CBD oil for thyroid are important as a safety measure. CBD manufacturers are to assess their product's purity and potency levels for consumers' safety. Although the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) sends warnings and restricts some brands from exposing customers to contaminants and high potency levels, users should be responsible for checking lab results. Avoid companies receiving warnings from the FDA often regarding the safety of their products.

Avoid relying on the posted potency levels since they might be inaccurate. Some brands post wrong potency levels putting consumers at risk of overdosing unknowingly. The potency levels from the labs are important to avoid the side effects of overdosing. Besides, although most brands use organic ingredients, processing requires chemicals that might infiltrate the products, interfering with purity levels.

    The Price

Cheap products are always enticing. However, some sweet deals might be a lure to poor quality. If you are buying CBD products online, avoid extremely cheap products. Assess the average prices across the board before settling on any cheap product. Manufacturing quality CBD products is costly. Best CBD producers have experts from hemp farming to production (chemists). The input on production affects the price of the products. However, a high price is not a guarantee of quality. The lab results are the main determiner.

    Conclusion

CBD products are effective for various health benefits due to their unique healing properties, including anti-inflammatory. However, there is no clear evidence of how CBD can treat the thyroid disease. Therefore, before replacing any medication with CBD or using them together, talk to a medical expert. Most importantly, CBD can cause various side effects, especially in high potency levels. Some effects are anxiety, poor memory, dizziness, and dry lips. Before buying CBD for thyroid, confirm the potency and purity levels, preferably from an IOS-certified lab. This will help you avoid overdosing unknowingly and taking heavy metals and chemicals solvents that might have infiltrated the products during processing. Consider CBD products with organic elements that can help improve the condition.
