    CBD Bath Bombs for Pain

CBD bath bombs have recently become popular for their pain relief properties. They work efficiently to relieve stress and pain and improve mood. Herein, we discuss CBD bath bombs, how they relieve pain, their benefits, and possible side effects.

CBD-based bath bombs contain natural extracts that put your mind at ease while having a soak in the bath. These extracts include botanicals and natural oils which nourish the skin, relieve muscle tension, and suppress stress. The cannabis-derived bath bombs are generally safe; they contain minimal side effects, making them ideal for users with sensitive skin. However, the products could have negative effects if used improperly or when low-quality products are infused in bath bombs. Therefore, while choosing a CBD bath bomb, it is important to look out for its product label to ensure it meets the safety standards.

    What Are CBD Bath Bombs?

CBD bath bombs are ball-like topicals infused with Cannabidiol (CBD). The bath bombs are also infused with essential oils, like lavender oil, and inorganic compounds to make them water soluble and improve their scent. The bath bombs improve skin health by relieving muscle tension and cleansing and moisturizing skin.

CBD bath bombs resemble ordinary bath bombs, albeit with added ingredients from the cannabis plant. CBD is an organic compound obtained from hemp, a strain of cannabis alongside marijuana. Besides hemp, marijuana also contains CBD, albeit in a lower concentration than hemp. CBD is non-psychoactive and does not cause any ''high'' sensation experienced with cannabis products. Instead, it has properties that relieve pain and inflammation (Atalay et al., 2019). On the other hand, THC is a psychoactive chemical compound found in marijuana, and it causes euphoric sensations and may heighten anxiety. However, trace amounts of THC amplify the effects of CBD in bath bombs.

    CBD Bath Bombs for Pain

CBD bath bombs are used topically for skin conditions. The bombs' therapeutic effects are on the skin while taking a bath. Therefore, it nourishes the skin by relieving conditions like acne and eczema. It also removes dirt, oil, and bacteria, while effectively opening up your skin pores for enhanced aeration.

The cannabis-based bombs relieve pain by interacting with the endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a complex network of enzymes, neuromodulators, and receptors that maintain balance in the body. The system consists of natural molecules known as endocannabinoids, similar to cannabinoids in CBD. The ECS consists of receptors found in various body parts. For example, it has CB1 receptors in the central nervous system, and CB2 receptors are found in the peripheral nervous system and the skin. Cooray et al. (2020) stated that CBD binds indirectly with CB2 receptors in the skin, reducing pain and inflammation. The cannabis derivative may also prevent the breakdown of other endocannabinoids, thus improving their efficacy in the body.

Dawidowicz et al. (2021) stated that CBD has antioxidant properties that protect the skin from oxidation. Furthermore, they relieve several skin conditions like psoriasis and acne. The cannabis topical relieves acne by regulating sebum production; an overproduction of sebum leads to clogging in the skin pores and accumulating dirt, oil, and bacteria. The accumulation leads to skin breakouts and acne.

Choosing the Best CBD Bath Bombs for Pain Relief

The following are factors to consider while choosing CBD bath bombs for pain relief.

    Concentration

If you have a larger tub, it is necessary to have a highly concentrated CBD bath bomb. About 100mg would do the trick, although some people may prefer to start small and add more bath bombs during the bathing process. Highly concentrated bath bombs are more effective in pain relief than lowly concentrated bath bombs.

    Ingredients

While shopping for CBD bath bombs, ensure the ingredients infused in the bath bombs are natural and made without chemicals like phthalates. Natural botanicals are used instead of artificial colors and dyes to make cannabis topicals more tolerable.

    Fragrance

Natural oils like lavender and eucalyptus oil offer a soothing, delectable fragrance that improves mood and reduces stress. Scientists suggest that eucalyptus oil has analgesic properties that relieve joint aches.

Types of CBD bath bombs for pain relief

Full-spectrum CBD bath bombs are infused with various cannabinoids and chemical compounds from hemp. They include CBD, THC CBG, terpenes, and flavonoids. Perveen et al. (2018) stated that terpenes have anti-inflammatory properties that relieve pain and inflammation. However, THC levels are too low (0.2%) to cause euphoric effects.

Broad-spectrum CBD bath bombs are infused with various cannabinoids, except THC. They provide a limited range of benefits compared to the broad spectrum.

On the other hand, isolate bath bombs are Cannabidiol as the only active ingredient from the cannabis plant; other additives in the isolate are inorganic. The isolates have a limited range of effects on the body.

How to Use a CBD Bath Bomb

If you are new to CBD, starting with the lowest dose of CBD bath bombs is important. The bath bombs often come in doses ranging from 20mg-100mg or more. Factors like body chemistry, age, and weight determine the dosage. CBD Bath bombs are often easy to use; one needs to fill the tub with water and drop the bath bomb to dissolve. Before taking a bath, allow your skin to absorb the bath bomb for 15 minutes; this helps the skin soak up the CBD, making the bath bomb more effective in relieving pain and reducing anxiety.

What to Consider When Purchasing CBD Bath Bombs

    • Ensure the product has undergone intensive independent third-party testing. The tests are conducted to ensure the product does not have traces of pesticides, molds, and heavy metals.
    • Confirm the THC levels, and ensure they do not exceed 0.2%.
    • Ensure the product is made from UK-grown hemp since it is safer.
    • Read the customer reviews for more insight about the product.

Do CBD Bath Bombs Make You Feel ''High?''

CBD bath bombs are often non-psychoactive since they have lower amounts of THC (below 0.2%). The mechanism of CBD bath bombs' interaction with the body does not allow the bombs to dispense cannabinoids into the bloodstream. Therefore, cannabis derivatives cannot cause psychoactive effects even if they contain more THC.

Possible Side Effects of CBD Bath Bombs

Although CBD is considered safe, a few people may experience side effects like diarrhea and fatigue. The inorganic ingredients in the topical products may cause irritation and redness.

    Summary

More people are embracing CBD bath bombs due to the therapeutic properties of CBD. The cannabis derivatives in the CBD bath bombs are organic compounds that relieve pain and inflammation with minimal side effects. CBD bath bombs indirectly bind with CB2 receptors under the skin to reduce pain and inflammation in the joints and muscles. When choosing bath bombs for pain relief, it is important to consider the fragrance, concentration, and ingredients.
