    CBG: What Is It?

    CBG is among the most common cannabinoids derived from the cannabis plant. It is minor since it occupies only 1% of the plant extract. However, it is commonly referred to as the 'mother of all cannabinoids' since all the cannabinoids originate from it. CBDA, the acidic form of CBG, is converted to THC and CBD as the cannabis plant grows. For this reason, CBG is found in high quantities in younger cannabis plants compared to full-grown ones.

    CBG hit the market due to its health benefits to the body, including improving sleep. CBG is rarely found and thus making it expensive. However, cannabis growers decided to try new methods to increase the production of CBG by cross-breeding and genetic mutilation. Similarly, CBG strains such as White CBG, Glue CBG, and Jack Frost CBG are considered to have more CBG compounds than others.

    Like other compounds, CBD is derived from the plant using CO2 or ethanol. CO2 extraction is the best method for obtaining any cannabinoid from the plant since it does not expose the compound to chemicals that can affect the potency and reduce the quality of the compound.

    How CBG Works

    The human body has an endocannabinoid system located in the central nervous system. Furthermore, endocannabinoid receptors are found all over the body including in the skin, nerves, and the brain. CBG acts on the cannabinoid receptors to provide relief in different forms, for example, pain relief and improved sleep. There are two types of receptors, namely CB2 and CB1 receptors. CB1 receptors are found in the nerves and brain, as CB2 receptors are found in the immune system and the rest of the body parts. Therefore, CBG binds with the CB2 receptors to reduce anxiety and thus cannot affect the mental spate of the user. THC is a common compound of marijuana known for its hallucinogenic effect; it causes a high feeling since it interacts with CB1 receptors alone.

    How to Use CBG

    Most CBG is found in the oil form and thus can be used orally or topically, depending on the user's preference. Also, the oil can be infused in different products, including foods. Moreover, several states prohibit cannabinoid compounds in foods and beverages. However, state governments allow selling other CBD products such as gummies, capsules, and tinctures in local and online stores.

Furthermore, high-quality sleep improves cardiovascular health and metabolism and removes toxins from the body. There are different causes of poor sleep, ranging from the environment, lifestyle, and health conditions. To have a good night's sleep, you should ensure the environment is conducive by minimizing noise and using comfortable bedding. Scientists suggest that individuals avoid blue light for at least 4 hours before retiring to sleep.

    Stress and anxiety are among the commonly experienced mental disorders. They vary in severity, and according to García-Gutiérrez et al. (2020), CBG alleviates different mental issues, including stress and anxiety, since it has a soothing and relaxing effect on the body and the mind.

    Cannabinoids are widely spread and infused in different products, including skin care products, since they can relieve different forms of pain. Many factors, including health conditions, can cause pain, for example, arthritis, which results from the deterioration of cells around and in the joints, making walking difficult. According to Darkovska-Serafimovska et al. (2018), CBG, as a cannabinoid, can help nerve, muscle, and joint pains since it can offer relaxation and soothe the target area. Also, most cannabinoids for pain are topical products and thus can be applied directly to the affected area to provide immediate relief.


    CBG is a cannabinoid known for its health benefits, although it is among the minor ones. CBG and CBD have more similarities than differences. For example, CBG does not have a psychoactive effect and thus cannot alter the user's mental state. It also acts on the cannabinoid receptors to provide relief by binding with the CB1 and CB2 receptors. CBG is rare; thus, many developments increase its availability, such as cross-breeding, genetic mutilation, and the development of new strains. Additionally, CBG has a therapeutic effect on the body, for example, pain relief, reducing inflammation, improving sleep, and alleviating stress and anxiety.
