What Does Being Glyphosate Residue-Free Mean in the CBD Industry?

Suppose you are concerned about the health and overall wellness, environmental effects, and nutrition. One might have encountered the term glyphosate. If you haven't, you can learn more about it and its effects in the CBD industry. This article explains what glyphosate residue-free means in the CBD industry.

Glyphosate is a popular herb and antibiotic mostly found in the United States of America. With the rise of GMO crops in us, the use of glyphosate has increased; hence its popularity has risen over the last several decades. Glyphosate's main ability is acting as a broad-spectrum herbicide for killing weeds. Moreover, it is used as a desiccant when growing GMO crops. When GMO crops are ready for harvest, glyphosate is sprayed to make the work easier. The herbicide is also used in small-scale farms and commercial parks. Unfortunately, this herbicide is banned from being used in organic farming.

    What is Glyphosate Residue

Glyphosate residue means the amount of glyphosate that remains in the crop after being harvested; Glyphosate is sprayed on the crops before harvesting. According to Jarell et al. (2020), the FDA has established a limit on the glyphosate residue in many crops like oil seeds, grains, corn, fruits, and vegetables. The FDA recommends that glyphosate residue should not be over 310 parts per million. It is important to regulate the glyphosate residue related to human food safety for consumption. The International Agency for Research on Cancer deemed glyphosate residue carcinogenic. Schilling (2017) explained that glyphosate residue increases the chances of contracting Alzheimer's infection, Parkinson's infection, ADHD, IBS, and celiac disease.

There are many chemical substances, such as glyphosate residue, related to studies and anecdotal data on what is toxic or not. However, the lack of evidence on the toxicity of glyphosate residue in human foods and drugs does not deem it's not toxic. It's not worth putting a person’s life at risk because there is no evidence to prove something is toxic. Glyphosate and residue in some foods and drugs have been banned in some states globally. In 2017, glyphosate residue was added to the California prop 65 lists. The list has chemicals that are likely to cause cancer development when exposed to them or have other severe toxicity levels.

    What Is Glyphosate Residue Free?

Since glyphosate residue was deemed carcinogenic, more consumers now demand that all food and drugs be free of glyphosate residue. It has made the herbicide garner high popularity over the last several years. The detox project certifies many products to prove they are glyphosate residue free. More than 85 percent of American citizens are concerned about pesticides compared to other emerging issues.

What Are the Effects of Glyphosate Residue in the CBD Industry?

CBD is an organic chemical compound found in hemp to mitigate many health conditions. Stella et al. (2021) explained that CBD has high levels of bioavailability, especially when taken sublingually or by swallowing. Therefore, partners must be concerned about the glyphosate residue in CBD products. Glyphosate is the main herbicide used in the United States of America. Approximately 250 million pounds of glyphosate is sprayed on plants annually in the United States of America before harvest. The glyphosate used globally for harvesting purposes amounts to 1.65 billion pounds yearly. Larkin Jr (2018) explained that when cultivating hemp to produce CBD for medical purposes, one must ensure they don't use carcinogenic herbicides. CBD consumers always discriminate about the quality of CBD products they consume since their life needs protection. The states that the food and drug administration only approves food stuff and drugs with no glyphosate residue.

    Glyphosate Reside and Safety

Most food and drug companies are banned from using glyphosate in their family activities to reduce the risk of contracting cancer globally. There is no link between glyphosate residue and an increased rate of contracting cancer since there is no date, and the statement was rigorous. The international agency for research on cancer results was not consistent with the other two projects conducted by the world health organization. These projects are the core assessment group and the international chemical safety program. Landrigan et al. (2018) stated that glyphosate is not carcinogenic. The European food safety authority also discovered that glyphosate is not likely to cause cancer or increase the chances of contracting the infection.

Why Should You Care About Glyphosate Residue in CBD Industry?

Although it's unclear whether glyphosate residues in drug or food substances cause or increase the chances of contracting cancer, it's better to be safe than sorry. It's not good to roof with a person’s life. Every CBD product a user buy ensures it doesn't have glyphosate residue. CBD is mainly used to mitigate some chronic health conditions; hence it can't be linked as a potential threat to contracting tragic infections like cancer. Therefore, CBD industries must ensure all their CBD product is glyphosate residue-free. The lack of studies to link glyphosate as a carcinogenic chemical or not doesn't give a person the liberty to gamble.

    Conclusion

CBD is an organic chemical compound found in hemp, and it's used to mitigate many health conditions. CBD has high levels of bioavailability, especially when taken sublingually or by swallowing. Therefore, partners must be concerned about the glyphosate residue in CBD products. Although it's unclear whether glyphosate residues in drug or food substances cause or increase the chances of contracting cancer, it's better to be safe than sorry.
