What happens if you Are allergic to CBD oil

What are allergies? What are the characteristics of CBD allergies? Does CBD work to help with allergies? These questions are answered in detail.

Allergies are reactions occurring when the body treats new substances introduced into the body as harmful substances. These body reactions are released to counter the new substances in the body, and most manifest as rashes, itching, coughing, runny nose, and watery eyes. Most of these allergies present themselves as plant and food allergic reactions. CBD can also be a causative agent to allergic reactions because it is from the cannabis plant. A user of CBD can consult a doctor if the rushes on the skin persist in itching. A user should consider the type of CBD and its properties before applying it to the skin.

What happens if you Are allergic to CBD oil

    Allergies Explained

Allergic reactions are noticeable; these signs distinguish them; rashes, itching, coughing, runny nose, or watery eyes. The reactions are caused by the body's immune system, which protects the body from unharmful or harmful substances we come across in our daily activities.

Also, the body might identify some substances that might react to it, producing antibodies to counter the allergen. The antibodies are released every time the body contacts the allergy causative agent.

Common food allergies that people experience are caused by foods such as whey, nuts, and soy, such as foods with high protein content. Concerning the allergies caused by high protein, hemp seeds also have high protein. Thus they can cause hemp allergies.

    Characteristics of CBD allergies

A good example of CBD oils is the full-spectrum CBD oils obtained from hemp seeds. This type of CBD oil contains a lot of proteins because of the hemp seeds' content. During the extraction process, the plant pollen may be infused in CBD oil, and the pollen is a known agent that causes allergic reactions. Allergy causes the body to release antibodies against it when a person comes into contact with the pollen. These antibodies will cause your body to start coughing or sneezing so that you can expel the pollen from your airway.

Also, people are bound to get allergic reactions from other CBD oil compounds if they are sensitive to them. A good example is the compound terpenes which give allergic-antibody reactions. According to Karlberg & Lepoittevin (2021), terpenes compounds, such as limonene, will cause skin rashes in a person sensitive to it.

    Hemp Seeds Allergies

The hemp seeds are used in many CBD oil products such as creams, serums, and cooking oils. The hemp seeds have abundant protein content and might cause allergic reactions. These reactions may be characterized as redness or hives. A person is advised to use CBD products from hemp oil in their refined form to avoid these allergic-antibody reactions. Look for hemp seed oils suspended in different carriers if you experience an adverse reaction to using CBD products.

    Symptoms Of CBD Allergic Reactions

According to Skypala et al.(2022), allergic reactions occur after the person has come into contact with the CBD product, possibly through inhaling, touching, eating, or smoking products containing CBD. While the body is exposed to it, it will view the CBD product as a threat and release antibodies against it. These reactions will be mediated by antibodies called immunoglobulins E, triggering the allergic reaction.

These immunoglobulin E-mediated reactions depend on the amount of immunoglobulins E in the bloodstream and vary with each individual. The reaction will work within a few minutes to hours, and its characteristics may change over time.

Since the CBD oils come from hemp plants, their allergic reactions may be compared to the allergic reactions to fungi and pollen. The symptoms are expected to fade with time but discontinue using the CBD product if you experience them.

    Examples of allergic reactions related to CBD use;

    • Having a runny nose
    • Continuous sneezing
    • Congestion of the airway
    • Having a dry cough
    • Itching on the skin
    • Irritation of the eyes
    • Getting a sore throat
    • Skin reactions

    Also, the topical CBD products will have side effects such as;

    • Blisters
    • Dry skin
    • Redness
    • Irritation
    • Getting hives

Does the Use of CBD Oil Cause Itching

The cause of allergic reaction depends on the itching a person is experiencing, and if they have itchy eyes or red eyes, they might be allergic to an additive component of CBD oil such as terpenes. Therefore, a person should use CBD products with fewer CBD ingredients. The baseline ingredients should include hemp oil and MCT oil only.

According to Scholfield et al. (2022), allergic reactions may also result from the CBD ingredients when a person experiences it after applying it to the skin topically. It may present as itching where the cream or serum has been applied.

CBD and Its Relation To Rashes

Many users of full-spectrum CBD rarely complain of rashes, although it might be present in some rare individuals depending on the various body forms of different people. People should discontinue use if they experience rashes after using CBD products, and if the side effects worsen, they should seek medical help. The allergic reactions may worsen and involve internal body organs such as the liver and kidney, which may cause damaging effects to your normal body functioning if undetected early.

CBD Oils and their Benefit to Allergies

Chatkin et al. (2019) noted that CBD oil could also counter these allergic reactions once used in the correct dosage and treatment method, although CBD is found to cause some allergies. The CBD can:

    • Induce an inflammatory response to the allergen introduced.
    • Inhibit the release of histamine.
    • Reduce the symptoms of the prevailing allergic reactions.

    Conclusion

Food allergies and plant allergies have affected people for a long time over the years. Known reactions to CBD products are rare and uncommon, although a person might experience discomfort if you use excessive amounts of CBD oils. These reactions include rashes, sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and other typical symptoms. Note that adverse allergies can cause kidney issues, among other health issues. A person is advised to use the CBD products at their disposal carefully. A person should stop using the CBD product if an allergy occurs. Ensure you visit a dermatologist to help with your skin reaction if you are a victim of CBD oil allergies. These CBD oils are available, and you are advised to make the right choice when buying them.
