Is The Use of CBD Oil in Treating ADHD Possible?

CBD has multiple medical and therapeutic properties vital for suppressing ADHD symptoms like hyperactivity and reduced concentration. This article explores the health benefits of CBD and how they relieve the different symptoms of ADHD among children.

ADH is a condition characterized by poor concentration, restlessness, and impulsiveness. Different drugs are used for patients with this condition. Still, they tend to have effects like appetite changes and sleep patterns distortion. CBD can be used to treat ADHD symptoms. Unlike other opioids and pharmaceutical drugs, CBD does not lead to drug dependence. Similarly, the cannabis derivative does not have psychoactive effects that may cause severe ADHD symptoms, especially among children.

Is The Use of CBD Oil in Treating ADHD Possible?

    What Is CBD Oil?

Cannabidiol is a chemical compound derived from hemp and cannabis plants. After extraction, the compound is mixed with carrier oils such as coconut oil or hemp oil. It is the most known cannabinoid due to the health benefits it offers the body. Cannabidiol does not have psychoactive properties; therefore, it cannot alter the user's mental state. Although CBD and THC are derived from the cannabis plant, they have different effects on the body. Wyatt& Karl (2017) opined that THC alters the mental state of its user.

Hemp-derived CBD is legalized by the food and drug administration due to its low-level THC and the highest amount of CBD. The legal THC percentage is 0.3% which is certified as non-psychoactive.

There are different ways of taking CBD, including oral and topical. Oral CBD is taken into the body through the mouth and then absorbed into the bloodstream. In contrast, CBD topical is externally used for localized skin conditions. Topicals are best for pain relief as they enhance fast relief.

    Formulations of CBD

CBD products are formulated into CBD isolate, full spectrum CBD, and broad-spectrum CBD. The full spectrum contains all the plant's compounds, including THC. The broad spectrum of CBD has different compounds from the plant, such as flavonoids, terpenes, and all cannabinoids except THC. However, the user can benefit from all plant compounds due to the entourage effect. The CBD isolate only contains CBD, limiting its effects compared to the other spectrums.

     CBD for ADHD

CBD might be more effective compared to other modes of treatment. The cannabis derivative can reduce some ADHD symptoms, albeit with a few side effects.

Patients with ADHD reported changes in appetite, mood, and sleep patterns after administering CBD.

Notably, the drug is not medically proven; therefore, consult your doctor before using CBD to treat ADHD to prevent its negative reaction to other drugs.

    The Research

CBD has become a subject for multiple discourses in the medical and beauty fields due to its health effects on the body. The natural remedy is effective for treating various diseases, including, but not limited to, ADHD. Although CBD can be used to treat ADHD, there is limited information on its effectiveness.

Importance of Using CBD Oil in Treating ADHD

CBD has several benefits that make it essential for ADHD symptoms. These include:

    Can Reduce Hyperactivity

Khan et al. (2020) noted that CBD users exhibit relief from impulsiveness and hyperactivity even after using CBD self-treat. Learn more about 10 best cbd oil for 2022

    Lessen Other ADHD Symptoms

ADHD has different symptoms, including distorted concentration. Sarris et al. (2020) showed that CBD could be used to reduce ADHD symptoms compared to a placebo. It was noted that an increase in CBD reduced the symptoms. Learn more about will cbd oils get you high?

    How CBD Works

The human body contains endocannabinoid receptors in the skin, nerves, and brain. The receptors are responsible for well-functioning the body's immune, appetite, and senses. CBD interacts with the cannabinoid receptors by binding the CB1 and CB2 to provide relief from different body imbalances like pain, stress, and inflammation.

    Other Health Benefits of CBD

    Alleviate Mental Disorders

Common mental disorders include stress, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The disorders can lower your focus and affect your productivity. They can also affect your sleep patterns due to elevated stress levels. Bitencourt & Takahashi (2018) observed that CBD could be used to reduce post-traumatic disorders. Patients administered CBD daily showed reduced PTSD symptoms.

    Relieve Pain

CBD eases various pains, including joint, muscle, and nerve pain. According to Linher-Melville et al. (2020), CBD can be used to relieve sciatic nerve pain, which athletes mostly experience.

    Relaxation

According to Mattagajasingh et al. (2007), CBD can relax the body and the mind due to its soothing effect. The cannabis derivative promotes vascular relaxation by enhancing endothelial nitric oxide synthesis.

    Conclusion

People have different childhood diagnosed health conditions, for example, ADHD, characterized by poor concentration, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. Research on CBD's effectiveness for ADHD is still limited; however, the cannabis derivatives have shown effectiveness for enhancing mental alertness and reducing stress and other ADHD-related symptoms like hyperactivity. Similarly, it calms the body and reduces aggression related to ADHD. While the cannabis derivatives remain tolerated in the body, users should seek medical advice to avoid aggravating ADHD symptoms through the wrong usage of CBD.
