    CBD Dosage; How Much Should You Take?

    The number of CBD product manufacturers and users is increasing. Moreover, the research on this compound's effectiveness and safety in use is ongoing.

    Therefore, with the numerous purported benefits of CBD, you may be tempted to give it a shot. You may think of taking the capsules, dropping the CBD oil under the tongue, vaping it, taking the edibles and gummies, or using it in your cooking and baking. However, how much should you take regardless of how you take it? Read on to find out the answer to this.

    Figuring out the Right Amount

    The right amount for one user does not always apply to the other. There are some factors in play that you must first consider before deciding on the right amount for you. These factors include;

    • An individual's body weight
    • Individual body chemistry
    • The CBD concentration
    • The condition you want to treat

    Always consult first with your doctor before taking CBD. This way, he can help you know the right amount for your body in case you may be at risk of potential side effects. Nonetheless, when you have an underlying condition, the doctor will advise accordingly depending on whether the CBD will interact with the medication you are already taking. Abu-Sawwa et al. (2020) found that CBD might react with other drugs the individual uses.

    However, if you are not taking the prescription CBD medication, Epidiolex, as Devinsky et al. (2018) noted, or the doctor doesn't advise you on CBD intake, take the CBD product gradually; begin with smaller doses as you slowly increase the amount you take. The increase or decrease will depend on how it effectively addresses personal needs or symptoms.

    Furthermore, whenever you take CBD without the doctor's recommendation, keep track of the amount you take and its progress on the symptoms. For instance, write down what happened on day 1, week 1, and so on. Did the pain or symptoms worsen? Did you get the desired effect?

    How Much Should You Take?

    The research and studies on CBD are still ongoing. In these research and studies, the amount of CBD used varies. There is a variety of conditions under study and research. Besides, Lang et al. (2016) established that the response to the CBD dosage varies from one person to the next, and individual needs are also not the same. Therefore, it is not surprising that there is no consensus on the right dosage for every user. With a lack of universally agreed-on dosage, your doctor's recommendation comes in handy.

    Talk to your doctor to determine how much CBD you should take. If there is no recommendation, the tip is always to start small. Go for lower doses first, and observe how the body reacts and the symptoms progress.

    Most CBD products have a dosage of 20 to 40mg per dose. However, begin with around 10 to 20mg CBD dose daily. Keep up with this dosage for approximately one week, noticing the effects on the body and the symptoms you want to address. If your body does not tolerate it (getting allergies or suffering from the side effects), stop taking CBD.

    On the other hand, if there are no allergic reactions, side effects, or sensitivity, but your symptoms are not improving, increase your dosage slightly. Go for a 5mg increment weekly until you achieve the results you are looking for. Taylor et al. (2018) suggested that doses as high as 1,500mg of CBD daily are still safe to take and well tolerated by the body. Therefore, you can range the dose anywhere between 20mg to 1,500mg daily. However, keep in mind that experts and researchers are still studying CBD further.

    What to Consider Before Choosing the Right CBD Dosage

    Other than the prescription drug, Epidiolex, which has an officially recommended dosage, CBD products do not have a standard amount. However, you can consider the following when determining the right amount for you;

    • CBD Sensitivity; each person tolerates CBD differently, so you must assess your ability. A smaller dosage is proper if you have a high sensitivity to CBD effects. On the other hand, if CBD does not affect you much, you can go for higher doses.
    • CBD Concentration; if the CBD product you are consuming: gummies, capsules, or CBD oil drop, is high, you can take it in lower doses.
    • Your body weight; if you have a heavier body, you may opt for larger doses than a smaller-bodied user to get similar benefits.
    • Age; if you are a little bit older, your CBD dosage should be lower than a younger user.
    • Sex; typically, men need a higher dosage of CBD than female users.
    • The Symptoms You Are Treating; Your CBD need varies from one person to the next, depending on the symptoms. In some people, the symptoms may be adverse, while in others, it could be milder. Furthermore, others may take CBD, but the effects on the symptoms they are treating may be inconsistent. Furthermore, the dose you use in treating one condition may be lower or higher than the one you use in treating another.

    Considering the above symptoms, do not struggle to calculate the amount of CBD your body needs. This is because there is a dosage calculator available online. This is a good starting point to help you pick the right dosage. However, remember that their accuracy level may not be 100%.


    CBD is becoming more popular daily, and its product incorporation is gradually increasing. Unfortunately, there is no standard universal dosage of the right amount you should take. This is because people have different body chemistry, weigh differently, and have varying symptoms. The CBD concentration in products varies. Therefore, you should consider these, among other factors like sex and age, before you choose the perfect dosage. Get your doctor's recommendation before starting with CBD.
