Are Your Hormones Safe with The Consumption Of CBD?

Metabolism sexually and reproduction are some of the many bodily processes that require the proper functioning of hormones. CBD has cannabinoids that interact with the body’s endocannabinoids, affecting the hormones wide-ranging and profoundly.

This article will explain how CBD oil is responsible for functioning different hormones.

Are Your Hormones Safe with The Consumption Of CBD?

CBD oil is one of the components found in the cannabis plant. Cannabinoids are compounds in CBD oil that interact with the body's endocannabinoids. They may aid in the proper functioning of the hormones. The endocannabinoid system comprises enzymes that synthesize endocannabinoids, enzymes and cannabinoid receptors. When taken, CBD interacts with CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the brain and body. This means intake of CBD oil may affect physiological actions such as mood, pain, and inflammation. CBD oil stimulates the endocrine gland's function when the receptors are activated.

    What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the compounds from the hemp plant. CBD comes in different forms; Full-spectrum CBD contains other compounds in the hemp plant, like cannabinoids and THC. Broad-spectrum is another form of CBD oil with compounds from the cannabis plant, but unlike Full spectrum, this form of CBD does not contain THC. Isolate CBD is considered to be the purest form of CBD oil. It does not contain any compound from the cannabis plant as it is processed to obtain it in its purest form. Its end products are in the form of crystals, colourless and odourless.

    Is CBD Safe for Hormones?

Consumption of foods like lean proteins, vegetables and omega-3 fatty acids may help regulate hormone levels. CBD has been introduced to help in hormonal imbalance as results of improvement were noted. Let’s take a look at how CBD can influence hormones. Learn more about what is cbd oil used for?

    CBD Oil for Cortisol.

Commonly known as the stress hormone, cortisol is produced in the adrenal glands. NeuroEndoMetaboloc (NEM) is also known as the body's stress response system since many systems are affected. NEM is controlled by the brain, Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis to be specific. Suppose any threat is posed towards the body. In that case, the hypothalamus signals the pituitary gland about the threat, which signals its chemical messengers to the adrenals. This results in transporting hormones throughout the body to deal with the threat. Clutter et al. (2017) state that CBD has ant-catabolic properties, which help produce and regulate the Cortisol hormone, or flight hormone, which helps the body handle stress. A rise in cortisol hormones decreases certain body functions. Some may even stop alternatively. CBD may help control the high production of cortisol which is mostly contributed by stress. The anti-catabolic properties of CBD oil control the production and regulation of cortisol hormones, reducing stress.

    CBD Oil on Insulin.

Insulin is one of the hormones produced by the pancreas. Insulin helps the body in the absorption of nutrients obtained from food. It also helps in converting glucose into energy and storing excess energy. Farokhnia et al. (2020)analyzed that CBD oil was essential in insulin production. Low insulin production may increase blood sugar levels, resulting in diabetes. Diabetes can also be a result of inflammation of the pancreas. An insulin imbalance can also result in obesity and heart issues. CBD has anti-inflammatory properties, which help in reducing inflammation of the pancreas.

    CBD Oil on Thyroid Glands.

The thyroid gland is responsible for the absorption of iodine from food. They work on a cellular level by converting oxygen and calories into energy necessary for the proper functioning of the body. Being the only organ that can absorb iodine, the body depends on the thyroid gland to control the metabolism at the cellular level. An imbalance in thyroid hormones may lead to hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. Borowska et al. (2018) illustrate how CBD oil interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system, impacting the thyroid function and the production of thyroid hormones. CBD interacts with cannabinoid receptors in the pituitary glands, sending a message to the thyroid glands and releasing the thyroid hormone. Cannabinoid and CB1 receptors in the thyroid are responsible for releasing thyroid hormones.

    CBD Oil for Melatonin.

Sleep issues can be a result of unbalanced hormones. The pineal gland produces melatonin hormone in the brain, which also has cannabinoid receptors. Melatonin is responsible for regulating the circadian rhythm and sleep cycle. The endocannabinoid system is responsible for managing bodily functions like sleep with the help of the melatonin hormones. Shannon (2016) states that CBD activates CB1 receptors in the penal gland to produce melatonin, which controls sleeping habits. Circadian rhythm stimulated by the melatonin hormone aids in different functioning of the body. CBD also interacts with cannabinoids in the pineal glands. As a result, regulate the production of melatonin which, when uncontrolled, may lead to obesity, insomnia and depression.

    CBD Oil for Women's Health.

Women commonly face hormonal imbalances starting from puberty, when they start menstruation, and even at menopause. These hormonal imbalances may result in sleep issues and pain experienced during menstruation. Sholler (2021) states CBD has anti-inflammatory properties that help regulate cramp pain, usually occurring during menstruation. CBD has also greatly benefited women with premenstrual syndrome, known as PMS.

     Conclusion.

Hormones play vital roles in our bodies, from controlling sleep regulating blood sugar levels and even circadian rhythm, which controls different body functions. With different methods of regulating hormonal levels like exercising, having effective sleeping patterns and avoiding consuming products with certain chemical levels, CBD has also been seen to have potential benefits to hormones. CBD interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which affects the body's hormone levels, thus restoring homeostasis. Though most patients have incorporated CBD to control their hormone levels, it is highly recommended that patients consult a doctor before using any CBD product to avoid reparations that may result in the interaction of CBD with other medications.
