Does CBD Oil Give You Energy?

CBD research is in infancy, although the future seems promising as CBD could help with various issues. Understanding CBD and how it functions in the body is the first step to knowing how CBD gives you energy.

In a world where much is expected from each individual, energy is essential. It is easy to lose focus at work or school, which indicates a lack of energy because energy flows where attention goes. The body is built like a machine; like machines, it also has its limits. You can't expect the body to give maximum performance if it doesn't have enough energy or you don't give it time to restore. Several people rush for quick remedies such as caffeine and energy drinks. These only give short-term effects, and excessive use of stimulants presents dangerous side effects. However, to find something to boost your energy, why not give CBD a try?

Does CBD Oil Give You Energy?

    What Is CBD Oil

CBD corresponds to Cannabidiol which is one of the compounds of the cannabis plant. Federally legal CBD is extracted from the hemp plant since its THC levels are of low concentration.  Maia et al. (2019) stated that THC stands for Tetrahydrocannabinol, the psychoactive compound of cannabis that causes high in marijuana users. However, with CBD, you are not likely to get high or have any mind-altering effects since it is non-psychoactive. CBD is extracted in powder form, then medium-chain-triglycerides (MCT) are added to create CBD oil. CBD oil can be utilized in many ways, including oral, sublingual, topical, and vaping.

The Endocannabinoid System and CBD Oil

An individual must understand how CBD interacts with the body before getting down to how CBD oil boosts energy. Nothing goes unsaid without the mention of the Endocannabinoid system. The endocannabinoid system, or ECS commonly referred to, is an active and complex cell signaling network that comprises endocannabinoids, endocannabinoid receptors, and enzymes. According to Sallaberry et al. (2018), the endocannabinoid is one of the central psychological systems responsible for regulating human health and homeostasis. The study above also suggested that the ECS involves several important biological processes, such as the nervous system and energy levels. The main function of the endocannabinoid system is to regulate homeostasis and maintain a controlled internal environment even when the external environment changes.

How CBD Oil Functions in the Body

CBD works in the body by interaction with the endocannabinoid system. You must understand that the body produces its cannabinoids known as endocannabinoids which circulate and interacts with the endocannabinoid system. These endocannabinoids are at work every minute and may sometimes need to be stimulated. This is where CBD comes in. Spanagel (2022) noted that CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system through activating endocannabinoid receptors. There are two known endocannabinoid receptors, cannabinoid-1 (CB1) and cannabinoid-2 (CB2). CBD oil helps keep an optimum level of homeostasis or natural balance. Initially, maintaining natural balance and regulating homeostasis is the ECS's function; CBD binds to the CB1 and CB2 receptors to activate or boost the endocannabinoid system to perform its function. The endocannabinoid system also involves several biological processes that may run off track without this balance.

    How CBD Increases Energy Levels

Hazekamp (2018) noted that CBD could deal with different health conditions. Blood et al. (2020) suggested that CBD can also boost energy levels in the body. Earlier studies suggest that CBD has the potential to be termed a 'wake-promoting agent.' Morrison et a. (2014) noted that microinjections of cannabinoids injected into the hypothalamus activate the neurons, causing an increment in the dopamine levels and an elevation in wakefulness. CBD is found to have antioxidant properties, which come in handy in restoring molecules in the body that have aged or damaged, which in turn maintains the energy levels. Restoring these molecules brings back the necessary balance for regenerating the brain cells. Taking CBD may assist in keeping the mood in check, which in turn keeps an individual energized. Smith (2019) revealed that CBD impacts inflammation, anxiety, sleep apnea, pain, and energy boost. However, you must understand that CBD on any front, including boosting energy levels, is still in its infancy. This means that there is a need for more proof to ascertain these claims.

    Why Use CBD Oil

CBD is gaining popularity daily, and it is no shock to find different people, regardless of age or gender, using CBD nowadays for various reasons. In the case of athletes, CBD is reported to boost energy levels by reinforcing the body cells that influence feelings of sleepiness and sluggishness. CBD can also reinstate focus and clarity of mind. The beauty of CBD oil is that it comes in different forms, such as Edibles, topicals, tinctures, and even vapes. This means that you are not limited to only one method of taking CBD oil. However, some methods of CBD intake, such as sublingual, which involves drops or tinctures, offer their effects faster but generally, the effects of CBD are long-lasting. Since CBD interacts with the Endocannabinoid system through the receptors, it can keep many biological processes and the body active.

    CBD Drops and Their Benefits

Out of all the methods of CBD intake, sublingual intake is the most effective and reliable. It is easy to consume as it only involves placing the drops under the tongue and holding them in the mouth until it dissolves completely. Sublingually, the CBD oil does not encounter the digestive system as it directly enters the bloodstream through the numerous blood vessels in the mouth. Since it doesn't encounter the bloodstream, the CBD maintains its potency making it more effective. The effects of CBD kick in faster and are long-lasting. The only downside of CBD oil drops is the earthy taste that comes with them, which may not be suitable for many.

Purchasing CBD Oil Drops for Energy

When purchasing CBD oil, go for something with greater effects. However, starting low on dosage and potency is advisable as a beginner, and find your way up until you achieve the desired effects. Consult your doctor before adding CBD to your daily regime. An athlete should avoid CBD products with THC content because of drug tests. Shopping for CBD is easy online as you can choose from various brands. Consider high-quality products from quality brands, preferably with proof of third-party testing.

    Conclusion

CBD is making headlines with its health and wellness claims. Most claims are mostly hypotheses and yet-to-be-proven facts. Research on CBD is at its initial levels. The results are promising, as, from the available studies and reports from CBD users, CBD could potentially help boost energy levels in the body. This means good news for athletes as they can use CBD not only for injuries but also to boost their energy levels. Health practitioners are already recommending CBD for various issues; what are you waiting for if you are not using CBD?
