CBD Oil for Inflammation, Pain, Arthritis & Other Health Issues

In this Covid-19 pandemic, most people may experience chronic pain, stress, or anxiety without knowing the cause. Arthritis patients are not also exceptional. The article explains the power of CBD oil consumption in relieving various health issues by explaining CBD oils and the benefits of CBD in relieving pain, inflammation, arthritis, cancer, and other conditions.

Cannabis-derived products have gained popularity in recent years. People are now familiar with terpenes, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), cannabinol (CBN), and especially cannabidiol (CBD). Furthermore, several clinical studies and trials have been done to determine the potential impact of CBD oil on the human system resulting in an unlimited number of benefits, e.g., alleviating pain and inflammation, treating arthritis, anxiety and depression reduction, cancer treatment, and many other unfolded health issues.

CBD oil is characterized by an earthy, natural unpleasant oily taste, which may be a big roadblock to many for harvesting the health benefits; however, as the world grows, more ideas come to light. The compound is infused in foods, flavorings, and edibles such as gummies, sweets, daily dishes, and drinks to take CBD with delicious flavors. The result is making CBD oil more convenient and discreet in handling more health issues.

    What is CBD Oil?

CBD is an active chemical compound derived from the cannabis sativa plant. It is largely known for not causing a 'high' sensation to its users (non-psychoactive), unlike most cannabis products, especially marijuana, are famous for. DeAdder et al. (2016) explained that in handling medicinal conditions, CBD oil is created by extracting the compound from the hemp plant's leaves, stalk, and flowers and diluting it with a carrier oil such as coconut oil, olive oil, hemp seed oil, or jojoba oil. Furthermore, CBD compounds are largely extracted from the hemp plant since it contains higher concentrations of CBD compounds and lower concentrations of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

Marinotti et al. (2020) highlighted that various manufacturers can use different techniques during the extraction process, resulting in three distinct CBD oil types available in medical fields.

    • CBD isolate - As the name suggests, CBD compounds are isolated from other natural compounds of the cannabis plant; during extraction, it is pure and has no taste or odor. Its purity in relieving health issues makes it have high CBD potency, thus more effective. It is also common for patients who are avoiding psychoactive effects caused by THC.
    • Full-spectrum CBD -It contains all cannabinoids of the cannabis plant, including small traces of THC. Most companies are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to create CBD oil with a low level of THC from the CBD type (less than 0.3% THC). The majority believe taking full-spectrum CBD oil is more effective due to its entourage effect, a phenomenon in which the combination of THC and CBD provides more health benefits than isolated CBD products.
    • Broad-spectrum CBD contains mostly CBD compounds alongside a small percentage of other cannabinoids except for THC. Most prefer it since it provides entourage effects (present terpenes) without taking THC.

CBD Oil for Pain, Inflammation, and Arthritis

There are various ways to consume CBD oil; sublingually (using tinctures and oil drops), ingesting it (foods, edibles, or drinks), and applying it to the skin in infused lotions or body scrubs. Afterward, the patient system interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is responsible for relieving body imbalances such as pain, stress, and inflammation. Furthermore, CBD compounds help the internal system handle those issues by promoting the production of body cannabinoids and binding with the system receptors (CB1 & CB2), alleviating health issues. In addition, it has calming effects, which control how brain neurons perceive various conditions such as stress and depression.

    Pain Relief

Conventional drugs such as painkillers can help manage chronic pains, but they can be addictive, unlike CBD, which is organic and has minimal side effects. In addition, the effects of CBD oil on the brain receptors and ECS receptors help alleviate chronic pains such as muscle pain, spinal cord injuries, joint pain, and arthritis pain.

    Anti-Inflammatory Properties

According to Atalay et al. (2020), CBD is a non-intoxicating compound with anti-inflammatory properties; therefore, it effectively reduces inflammation in the body caused by activating pro-inflammatory cells and in the brain caused by oxidative stress. CBD interacts with the body's ECS and activates the endocannabinoid receptors to enhance the immune system in inhabiting activations of inflammatory cells, thus reducing the cells' intracellular synthesis.

    Arthritis

Arthritis patients live with serious chronic pain that turns adverse if unaddressed. Even though there is no cure for arthritis pain, clinical studies have shown that CBD oil can alleviate pain, joint stiffness, inflammation, and anxiety associated with the condition. Furthermore, CBD interacts with ECS by inhabiting pain sensations in treating pain and joint stiffness. It activates CB1 receptors, responsible for pain management and ensuring efficient joint pain reduction, increasing arthritis patient mobility. Due to its anti-inflammatory factors, it increases intracellular calcium levels and reduces cell viability increased by arthritis disease.

    Other Health Issues

CBD oil has other health effects elaborated below, which help to treat diseases such as GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder), ADHD (Attention Deficiency Hyperactivity Disorder), PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder), Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, acne, cancer, insomnia, and cardiac inflammation. Aids in Anxiety and Depression Management

Anxiety is characterized by a feeling of excessive worry about a traumatic event you experienced or witnessed. CBD interacts with brain receptors which help in regulating brain perceptions. The interaction results in brain neurons lowering anxiety levels. In addition, CBD increases the production of the hormone serotonin, which at low-level results to stress increase in patients. Provide Quality Sleep

Other medications, such as prescribed drugs, can lead to dependency and even worse sleeping problems; however, CBD is non-addictive and is thus the best supplement for improving sleep. It targets sleeping problems such as stress, anxiety, and excessive pains. It is also characterized by calming and relaxation effects which help boost sleep quality. Addictively, during the daytime, it provides a feeling of freshness and alertness, thus stabilizing the sleeping patterns.

    Aids In Cancer Treatment

Heider et al. (2022) suggested that medicinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting adversely affect the recovery process for cancer patients. Therefore, CBD reduces the occurrence of those medicinal side effects. It also helps control and treats cancer symptoms such as anxiety, stress, sleeping problems, and seizure. Moreover, CBD promotes the reproduction of tumor cells leading to a reduction in tumor growth.

    Promote Mental Health

People are affected by mental issues due to stress and anxiety, and even memory loss. CBD is known to interact with brain receptors in mood regulation, thus promoting stress reduction. It also prevents inflammation in the brain and promotes the production of brain cells, enhancing memory growth.

    Heart Health

Stress and high blood pressure are major causes of heart issues. High blood pressure causes hypertension, the most known cause of heart disease. Interacting with the body's ECS, CBD lowers a person's blood pressure, thus reducing the chances of heart problems. Moreover, CBD has antioxidant properties that aid in lowering cardiac inflammation resulting from oxidative stress.

    Conclusion

CBD is known for its anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, analgesic, non-intoxicating, and non-psychoactive properties, making it popular in dealing with various health issues. Furthermore, CBD oil interacts with the body's ECS system, which helps alleviate stress, sleep, pain, and inflammation in the body. It is majorly used in treating chronic joint pain associated with arthritis patients and also helps boost the intracellular calcium levels in the joints of patients, thus reducing joint stiffness. However, if you are on any prescribed medications, you must contact your health official to avoid further complications. Additionally, while purchasing CBD products, ensure you purchase the products from a reputable brand and confirm whether the product has undergone intensive independent third-party testing.
