HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TAKE CBD OIL?

Cannabidiol is available in forms that include tablets, oils, and creams. The right dosage varies depending on its form and usage. Though there is little research underway, doctors are not yet able to confirm the safety of CBD oil products and the beneficial dosages for each. CBD is an active ingredient that is found in the cannabis plant. CBD products may have some health benefits, but they can also have some risks. The CBD market is expanding rapidly, and the body of research is also growing, but there is still confusion about the laws, how to use CBD, its effectiveness, and safety.

CBD products are legal, but their legality varies among states. The Food and Drug Administration does not regulate many CBD products. So the amount of CBD per dose, quality, and safety of the product can vary, making it difficult to calculate the right dosage. This article will focus on CBD dosage and research on the safe and effective dosages and the side effects.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I TAKE CBD OIL?

    Uses and Dosages

According to Brunetti et al. (2020), the Food and Drug Administration has only approved one cannabis product called Epidiolex, which is only available by prescription. The product covers the treatment of seizures in persons with severe types of epilepsy known as Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome.

The other products that contain CBD fall outside FDA regulation. Therefore, there are no official guidelines for their dosages. Some producers advertise CBD products with unproven medical claims. The quality and safety of these products may vary. Before anyone begins CBD products, consult the doctor about appropriate dosages. The method that the person uses depends on the method of administration that they are using and certain products. The administration methods are CBD capsules, CBD oil solutions, nasal sprays, and tablets.

Recently, many products containing CBD are becoming available. They include food products, cosmetics, dietary supplements, and animal health products. The research on CBD is still in its early stages, so scientists need to carry out more research to determine the risks and benefits of CBD products. More importantly, they should work out the ideal CBD dosages that are effective and safe for each condition. As a therapy, CBD oil is gaining a high research interest.

According to Fitzcharles et al. (2020), the World Health organization, research suggested that CBD oil can also have therapeutic benefits for the conditions like Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, infections, diabetic complications, and inflammatory diseases among others.

    Research into Dosage

While the FDA has only approved the use of CBD for certain forms of epilepsy, the doctors know little about what dosage people should take when they take it for other reasons. As with other drugs, Pamplona et al. (2018) clarified that the right dosage is the one that provides a therapeutic effect. In clinical studies, scientists have used different oral dosages of CBD from 100-to 800 per day. Learn more about microdosing cbd oil

    Factors That Can Influence Dosage

Several factors can influence people's dosage depending on the medical conditions or why people are using CBD. They will have to take a different CBD dosage. Some other people have to take high dosages to control epilepsy. In contrast, Skelley et al. (2020) mentioned that small doses could help with anxiety.

Weight is another factor that is considered before taking CBD. When using Epidiolex, the doctors calculate a dose per kg of the body weight in many clinical trials. The people who weigh less are required to take low dosages than those who weigh more. Alcohol and other CNS depressants can increase the sedation effect of CBD. For people who are under other medications, these can cause drowsiness. Those users should avoid or use a low dosage of CBD. Before mixing alcohol and other medication with CBD, ask your doctor whether it is safe.

Consider the dosage in each form of CBD. A capsule of CBD has a specific dosage, but the oral solution's dose depends on its volume. For example, a CBD solution that contains 25 mg per milliliter can provide 125 mg if the person takes a full teaspoon. These equate to 5 milliliters.

Other studies have used higher dosages. In a review, a person reported an improvement in psychosis after using 1200 mg per day for a few weeks. Pavel et al. (2021) noted that some people with schizophrenia reported improvement after using increasing dosages of 40-1280 mg per day for 4 weeks. In another study on the effects of CBD in people who have Parkinson's diseases and psychosis, six people showed significant improvement in symptoms with a dosage of 150 mg per day of CBD.

    What Dosages are Safe?

Despite that, the data on humans remains limited; regarding the effects of taking pure CBD, research has suggested that it has low toxicity. The world health organization reported that people usually adapt well to CBD. And that CBD does not cause the high, and it does not have the same potential for abuse as cannabis.

    Possible Side Effects

The information on the safety of CBD is limited. The available information points out the possible risks people have to consider before taking CBD. Some noticeable side effects include changes in alertness and drowsiness, digestive issues like diarrhea and decreased appetite, and mood changes, i.e., irritability and agitation.

    Benefits of CBD

Several studies have shown that pure CBD has many positive effects. But, to understand the benefits well, consider the body's endocannabinoid system. It is usually a complex system of enzymes, neurotransmitters, and receptors that play critical roles in developing the central nervous system. The CNS helps regulate different functions, including pain, memory, motor control, appetite, inflammation, etc. Studying further CBD effects in these areas can better understand how CBD affects different conditions and disorders.

Some other side effects may appear without people being aware of the cases, such as liver failure and injuries resulting from mixing alcohol and other depressants and CBD.

    Conclusion

Several factors may determine the CBD dosages a person can take, like the purpose of using it and the person's weight. Although there is no evidence, researchers have identified some drugs that interact with CBD that can also affect the dosages that a person can tolerate. The Food and Drug Administration has only approved one CBD product. The research on the possible dosages, uses, benefits, and safety of CBD is currently ongoing. Learn more about terpenes in cbd oil
