Does Vaping CBD Oil Get You High?

    Understanding CBD

CBD is one of the most popular cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. It's becoming many people's favorite because of the benefits it has. These benefits include; relieving anxiety and pain relief and improving skin conditions such as acne and sleep. CBD is available in various formulations such as edibles(gummies and capsules), vapes, oils, tinctures, face masks, balms, and salves. According to Nelson et al. (2020), CBD is known for its therapeutic and non-intoxicating effects since it does not have THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is responsible for the high effects.

    What Is CBD Oil?

CBD oil is derived from parts of the marijuana or hemp plant, like its flowers. CBD oil does not cause any high effects since its low THC levels. Most states have allowed the use of CBD products that have not more than 0.3 percent of THC. The FDA has illegalized the marketing of CBD as a supplement. It is because most CBD brand is making false medical claims.

Can You Get High from Vaping CBD Oil?

Vaping CBD oil makes you feel different since it affects your physical and emotional feelings. However, it does not have a high effect. According to Cristinel et al. (2020), CBD oils have psychoactive effects and are more subtle than that THC. Users of CBD have stated that vaping CBD oil gives you the same sensation as vaping THC oil. However, unlike THC, you cannot fail a drug test when using CBD as long as you are using hemp-derived CBD oil and not marijuana derived since the latter has high levels of THC. Vaping CBD oil makes you feel more relaxed and calm, while THC produces euphoric feelings and also alters your perception of things.

IS CBD Vape Psychoactive or Non-Intoxicating?

Moltke et al. (2021) noted that vaping CBD oil has various benefits, such as relieving anxiety and treating sleep problems like insomnia. Even though scientific research is still unclear, most people take CBD oil because of anxiety and sleep problems. Most individuals find CBD relaxing. Marijuana extracts that contain enough quantities of CBD and THC do not produce effects like anxiety and paranoia. These are mostly experienced with weed that contains high levels of THC and low CBD content. CBD and THC interact with the same receptors; hence because of the competition, CBD regulates the psychological effects of THC.

Vaping CBD oil makes you feel calm and relaxed, but it does not create euphoria or change sensory perception as THC does. However both compounds are psychoactive, but THC is intoxicating while CBD isn't.

Why Do Some People Think You Can Get High When Vaping CBD Oil

THC and CBD are extracted from the cannabis plant. Most people assume that CBD also has a high effect. Most individuals are unaware that CBD is extracted from the hemp plant, which has no psychoactive effects. Most states in the US have legalized hemp-derived CBD products since they do not have more than 0.3 percent of THC. Such low levels of THC are not enough to give you psychoactive symptoms.

    Is Vaping CBD Oil Safe?

Vaping any e-juice is generally unsafe, and CBD oil is no exception. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, around 3000 serious lung illnesses were linked to vaping products. Around seventy individuals have died from e-cigarette and vaping-associated lung injury (EVALI). Although EVALI is linked to vitamin E acetate, a product used in vaping oils, vaping CBD oil is also risky, especially if you get yours from an illegal source or dealer. According to Blount et al. (2020), around 26 EVALI cases were due to vaping CBD oil. Also, most scientists are still unsure about vaping CBD oil since its long-term effects are unknown. Also, the vaping device is heated during vaping, and a chemical reaction occurs in the vapor, which is harmful to the lungs.

Abernethy et al. (2019) noted that although CBD products are federally legal due to the Farm Bill passed in 2018, it is subjected to similar laws that other products under FDA are. Since CBD products are not yet FDA approved, many brands are taking advantage of that and selling low-quality CBD vape oils with harmful chemicals that harm people. You should only purchase CBD oil from a well-known and trusted brand and ask for proof of third-party lab test results since you will see the available ingredients and whether it has any contaminants.

According to the CDC, if you wish to vape, the following guidelines may help you:

    • You should not utilize THC-infused e-cigarettes or buy your vaping products from questionable brands
    • You should not use vaping products that have vitamin E acetate
    • You should not add any ingredients to your vaping products.

    Conclusion

CBD oil is the most popular form of taking CBD. Recently, it has been introduced to vaping. However, most people are worried if vaping CBD oil can get them high since it is extracted from the cannabis plant. CBD oil does not have THC, which is responsible for the high effect. So, vaping CBD oil cannot get you high since it is non-psychoactive. However, if your drug test is nearing, you should avoid full spectrum CBD oil since it has low traces of THC. Although it will not get you high, it is better to stay away from it. You should be careful where you buy your vape CBD oil since CBD products are not approved by FDA. Always get them from a well-trusted brand. However, if you are under any other medications or pregnant, talk to your doctor before ingesting it to avoid any unnecessary effects.
