    Will Vaping CBD Make You High?

    What is CBD? How does Vaping CBD work? What is CBD vaping? Does vaping CBD make you high? These and many more are some of the questions we will get to answer in this article. This article expounds more on these questions and answers the daunting question of if vaping CBD makes you high.

    Research has revealed CBD as a potential treatment for many health conditions, including depression, anxiety, and epilepsy. There are distinct ways to administer CBD, including topical creams, edibles, sublingual tinctures, CBD oils, and Vaping.  This article discusses the vaping method of using CBD, and the question many aspiring and current users of CBD ask themselves, will it make me high?

    WILL VAPING CBD MAKE YOU HIGH

    What Is CBD?

    CBD is a natural compound usually found in cannabis and hemp plants. Atakan (2012)  indicated several compounds in cannabis plants. CBD is gaining attention as research is unearthing its many benefits. This has led to an increase in the production of CBD-based products, CBD vapes being one of the products. People cannot talk about CBD without mentioning  THC. THC is a compound well-known for its psychoactive properties. It alters the mind to feel the 'high' primarily associated with cannabis. It is important to note that CBD doesn't cause a high like THC.

    What Is Vaping CBD?

    Short for vaporizing, vaping is a CBD consumption method where one uses a vape which is a battery-operated device. This device heats the vape juice in the chamber, transforming it to vapor. The user inhales the vapor directly into the lungs, where its quickly absorbed into the bloodstream. Users are advised not to use CBD oil for oral consumption for vaping as it can have devastating health effects.

    How Does CBD Vaping Work?

    Vaping CBD is done through a device called a CBD vape pen. These devices are made up of four or sometimes five parts, depending on if they are refillable or disposable. These parts include the battery, which is for powering the device, the atomizer, which heats the components in the chamber, and the chamber that stores the e-liquid. The mouthpiece is the pathway where vapor travels from the device to the mouth and is a button mostly found in refillable vape pens.

    These devices work by heating the CBD liquid with the atomizer turning it to vapor. The vapor is inhaled into the lungs, where CBD is absorbed into the bloodstream. Most people prefer this method of administering CBD as its effects are felt instantly compared to other methods.

    Is Vaping CBD Safe?

    Vaping CBD has controversy and confusion. Whether oils and e-liquids can be used simultaneously in a CBD vape pen is common. Don't be tempted to use your vape pen to vape CBD oil. Hazekamp (2018) stated that CBD oil is too syrupy to be vaporized and will most likely break your vape pen.

    Individuals can buy a CBD vape made of e-liquids processed by diluting the CBD oils using things like propylene glycol (PG), VG, and many more. Cao et al. (2020) showed that e-liquids contain fat and oils, leading to respiratory problems if accumulated in the lungs. Many flavors in e-liquids are artificial and likely not healthy for the body.

    Will Vaping CBD Make You High?

    Besides their therapeutic benefits, like pain relief, seizure treatments, and reducing inflammations, THC and CBD can alter the mood.  Though being derivates of the same plant, only THC has psychoactive properties, while CBD is known for promoting relaxation and calmness. THC can alter your perceptions of space and time. According to Arkell et al. (2019), CBD e-liquids do not contain the dependency properties found in addictive substances; vaping CBD does not lead to addiction. This is one of the main reasons why CBD treatment is preferred over other pharmaceutical medications. Some users have reported cases of feeling high after using CBD. This can result from the different types of CBD e-liquids which contain distinct levels of THC in them. They include;

    Full-Spectrum CBD E-Liquid

    Full-spectrum CBD e-liquid has THC levels of up to 0.3%. When using this type, you may feel high in harnessing the benefits that come with it. The presence of other cannabinoids in full-spectrum CBD  e-liquid helps elevate the entourage effect.

    Broad-Spectrum CBD E-Liquid

     A range of naturally occurring cannabinoids like pinene, cannabinol, cannabichromene, and terpenes can be found in this type. It also contains minimal or no amounts of THC. Broad-spectrum CBD e-liquid is preferred by people who want to avoid THC, though its entourage effect is as powerful as in full -spectrum.

    Isolate CBD E-liquid

    Isolate is also known as pure CBD. This type comprises only CBD compounds without any traces of THC. All extraction methods isolate CBD e-liquid to ensure its pure form. This type is most popular among athletes as it works for health conditions and doesn't appear in drug tests. This type is also the least recommended of the three types as it doesn't have the entourage effect.

    Other reasons why Vaping CBD can make you high include the following;

    • Ingredients in the e-liquid
    • Alcohol consumption
    • Third lab testing and THC content
    • The plant CBD is extracted from (Marijuana or Hemp)
    • Other medications

    Side Effects of Vaping CBD

    The benefits of vaping CBD outweigh the cons that come with it. Some of the side effects linked to vaping CBD include;

    Heart Problems

    According to Darville & Hahn (2019), e-liquids contain oxidizing agents, aldehydes, and nicotine. When inhaled, these particulates affect the heart and circulatory system. Learn more about can i vape terpenes?

    Lungs Problems

    Lerner et al. (2015) examined the effects of e-juices on the lung cells of both humans and mice. The study above also reported both cell types' toxicity, oxidation, and inflammation.

    Other  potential side effects include;

    • Fatigue
    • Drowsiness
    • Nausea
    • Headaches

    Conclusion

    Conclusively most research has indicated that vaping CBD does not have the same effect as THC. Unlike THC, vaping CBD leaves you feeling relaxed, calm, less stressed, and free of pain. Besides their therapeutic benefits, like pain relief, seizure treatments, and reducing inflammations, THC and CBD can alter the mood. Vaping CBD cannot make a user high unless it has more than 0.3% of THC. It is essential to point out that there is no research on the long-term effects of vaping CBD. Since the field of CBD is unregulated, it is advisable to use high-quality vaping devices to avoid using counterfeit products. Note that vaping CBD has side effects on your health; nausea, fatigue, drowsiness, and headaches. Consult a medical practitioner before using CBD, especially if under other medications.
